Tone2 Gladiator 2 is killer for just what you're looking for. BTW, version 2.2 was just released yesterday and the entire synth engine was redesigned to sound more "analog" and it made a pretty noiceable difference. It already had a bunch of filter types (including "Moog" filters), but they added a new "SuperFat" LP filter that is quite obese. I love this synth for basses, plucks, and pads. Definitely worth checking out IMO. |

They're all useful in one way or another, its how you use them, and how you mix that will make the difference. I use to think NI PRO 53 sounded like , but i've discovered its strengths and now use it in some of my tracks, not many look twice at it with all the other synths around, but it has its strengths. I wish NI would make an updated version of it, its the best thing they've done besides Kontakt, FM7 and Traktor. |

Just out of curiosity, what are those strengths?
It's undoubtedly going to be good in some way, I have FM8, Absynth 4 and Massive myself but I've never even heard of PRO 53, which is why I'm asking
My favorite synths are Sylenth, Zebra2, FM8 and Atmosphere. Nexus and z3ta+ are pretty good too. |

Cause they are over used. Sounds OK, nothing special.

So if you already had it loaded into a project and had it sounding the way you wanted it, now if you open the project it will sound different and need to be tweaked? |

Yes. The same patches are there, but they sound a little warmer, rounder, fuller, etc. with the new version. You can get around this by installing the new version in a different location or with a different name - that will leave the previous version in place. |
