Well heres the thing. Often times you hear songs from major producers that sound so rich and full. How do you get that? Do you use the perfect amount of reverb on everything? Or could it just be a placebo effect of them being major producers that it just sounds better?

Yea, but how do you master the art of cmpression? I mean do you only use it to boost sounds? how do you how much compression to use for each sound? and is it wise to compress every sound onn the song or just the bass, bassdrums, leads , etc.. |

I was joking somewhat. Honestly I think the most important thing is to have great source sounds (synths, percussion, everything) configured in a pleasing way (great melody and rhythms). Then there are some other things:
1. Good panning and use of stereo field.
2. Good use of dynamics / compression.
3. Good use of EQ to fit sounds together.
4. Good use of effects, especially reverb and delay. Neither too much (muddy) nor too little (dry or harsh).
Not necessarily in that order. Master all these and your work will sound "pro." |

You just asked questions worth several years of production experience. Scrutinize every topic in music production faq and all production topics on tweakheadz, and when you have an understanding of every process of production, you're on a good way.
Understanding the processes is the key, someone can point you in directions such as "eq like this here and there, compress this like this" etc, but without a fundamental understanding of every knob and button on every piece of production kit, be it hardware or software, you can't start improving.
So, my advice would be start reading on all the detailed stuff, it may look much at first, but the key to that "pro" sound is knowing what you're doing at all times, so you can plan a few steps ahead and already imagine how a sound will fit in the mix and how it may affect mastering stage, when you got that in your little finger, you're on!

| mainly comes down to oversampling of parts ie going threw them all until it all works |
