No, no, I`m not saying you hate all modern technology (given the fact that you're using one). And, though I quoted you, I'm not talking about you specifically - I'm also talking about Rose's comment about bloggers being gay, and the countless unfounded criticism there is on stuff like Twitter and the like. If you care to do a quick search here on TA, you will see that blogging and microblogging, for example, are often targets of disdain and contempt - and that's why I mentioned Socrates. If anything, I want to know why the hell people need to knock it before they even attempt to understand it.

Now, back to your point specifically. There may be too many blogs just as much as there are too many books, newspapers, pamphlets, journals, and all that jazz. But, since literacy became widespread, this has always been the case. And, I can't see how that isn't a good thing: though it makes it harder to find the true gems, it means everyone is given the chance to have their say. I fail to see the problem behind that :conf:

1. Google AdSense
2. A unique product/clothing line (if you get enough readers, you can just drop in bits about your and get some buys
3. make up a good ARG and include some sort of product

not having an rss feed on your blog is basically reducing the readership retention rate to 10%

I don't bother these days with sites/blogs which have constant news unless they have an Rss feed.

it's a major issue for me cause I have about 650+ blogs in my feed reader.

and to whoever was critizising blogs as being narcistic etc does not realize what types of blogs we are talking about.
I use blogs as a major research tool ( having them all in one rss feed aggregator is great because you can search across all of them with ease).

By the way, once you learn how to use RSS properly, take a look at Yahoo! Pipes and make your favourite feeds flow the way you want :)

You've been rather grumpy lately. I like it. :gsmile:

Is your mood tied to the realisation that you'll never escape the clutches of the internet?

On blogs, I agree with you. They are hardly a method of teaching. 99% of them are "I ate a turkey and lettuce sandwich today, it was a little dry."

I believe there needs to be a serious redefinition done here.

Blogs can have multiple forms, either a corporate, creative, informative outpost, or it can be a journal a form of online diary.

I think we're all talking about the first and not the second.

I read maybe a handful of blogs which could contain such comments " had an apple this morning" but these are few and far between.

design ( with the occasional "had an apple for lunch type of statement" :p actually she likes talking about her travels sometimes )

to flash photography ( this website created a movement in itself )

to magazine consultancy

filmmaker interviews:

etc etc

blogs are effectively changing the landscape of printed media but the speed and depth of action they can have
