| I have no template as I don't use Cubase that often. I prefer instrument tracks. Maybe along the way I bounce them to audio too. |

| i use instrument tracks with total recall for all my external hardware synths. |

I use midi tracks, then commit to an audio track below it once happy.
Icant see any reason to use an instrument track for an external device? |

| Why would you want to use a normal audio track when you can use external instruments? External instruments are the same but allow you to add vst effects to your hardware synth. Also with external instruments everything is delay compensated! Basically makes working with hardware the same as working with vsts. |

| Why do real time export when I can just hit record on the audio tracks? delay compensation can be set on the midi channels. You don't need external instruments to add vsts, you can add them to audio tracks as long as you don't have 'direct monitoring' checked int he preferences. |

I just bounce.. or write the patch name/number as the midi tracks name .. I tried setting that up when i got my first hardware Waldorf Pulse.. but im always putting it thru different hardware distortions and fx so itll sound diff every time anyway. |

| I like having everything come live from my synths so I can change it if need be. Which I ALWAYS do. Direct monitoring an audio track works OK, but I like the External Instruments feature because it only needs to be configured once. After this, it remembers the amount of audio tracks you want, MIDI output, and audio input. |

I believe it does, but im not sure. |

this requires some more configuration (http://www.studioconnections.org) and good knowledge about the midi/sysex protocol. but once setup it's pretty nice and the best workflow for me.
@mysticalninja, ok if you use manual hardware patching for the fx it makes not much sense to use preset saving. but i use only outboard synths and all fx ITB. |

I just don't change the patches on my instrument. I've been meaning to put that into the track, though. You can do both patch changes and automation through MIDI. |
