I'll keep using the free version of Avast.

But seriously if you're worried about an AV program using too many resources these days you should probably upgrade from that Pentium II with 64MB RAM

Why? So that my e-Penis can match up to all you nerds?

I just got a new laptop (Lenovo x200s) and I'm installing Windows 7 on it.

Yes, I'm a nerd. Where's the launch party? Am I cool nerd enough to get invited?

haha, I went to the Win7 install fest at the MS headquarters in Mississauga. Almost every guy in the place looked the exact same: white pale skin, belly, thinning hair, and bad posture. It was weeiiiiiird.

Hm, I'll give this a shot when my Kaspersky runs out.

Word on the street is that Windows 7 parties are where it's at. ;)

Well after a week of testing, I'm not too impressed.

My system is definitely slower over all. Sometimes folders just freeze on open, due to the software scanning the contents before opening. Same with programs. My system has felt sluggish all week, and I originally forgot why, until i remembered that I had installed this software.

I'm going to uninstall and see how my system responds for the next week.

It works great for me - I have been running it for month on a production ready machine (not some beta-loaded, super-tweaked, no-idea-of-impact-of-my-changes gearbox).

Well all my other software, has worked perfectly on my Windows 7 Release to Manufactures build 7100.

I have not 'tweaked' my system in anyway, almost straight out of the box. Even the symantec corporate i used worked perfectly 32 and 64 bit.

It really depends on what you are doing. If you are opening up a lot of files, especially big ones, then you will notice a difference. But if you just surf the net, and play around in email, then probably not.

Either way, my machine has been much quicker after uninstalling it. There is no way to argue around that it scans everything when accessed, which will put extra load on the system.
