:)

I wonder if that will have any sort of influence on the committee...

I would love to see the games come to Chicago. The global perception of the Windy City still doesn't stem too far from gangsters and grittiness...which I will say still have a presence in this city, but not even close to the degree that it was 20 years ago.

I realize that Brazil, or South America for that matter, could use an the Olympics to bolster the region...but I feel the World Cup will do that just fine.

To add that President Obama is personally heading to Copenhagen to vouch for the US bid - the first time in history that an American president has done this - only adds to the fuel.

On the other side, almost half of Chicago is against having the games here, not to mention a public transportation system that would need a complete rehaul. Plus, considering how the city is lied out, and the fact that they want to center the Olympic events down in the south side where plenty of renovation will need to occur in order to make the area look nice and pretty...the Chi definitely has a challenging argument to win.

But regardless, Rio would be a great place for it, too. No sweat off my back either way.

I'd imagine so, but it also means we're certainly prepared, more than ever, to receive the Olympics.

Besides, as Connerman mentioned the Chicago bid doesn't really have much popular support, and the US has hosted the Olympics 4 times during my lifetime (and I'm not that old):

  • 1984 - Los Angeles
  • 1996 - Atlanta
  • 2002 - Salt Lake City

Not to mention the fact in 1980 the Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid (couldn't they pick a more obscure city?) and there's also Vancouver in a few years (yeah, I know it's Canada but, come on, it's not really that far from the border :p).

edit: Lol... I know Fox News is the best trolling experiment ever, but I actually saw this first on CNN :p

Maybe this speaks to a lack of education in international geography, but I've never heard of Sochi before. (2014 Olympic Site)

Don't worry, that's because you're not Russian. The only reason why I do know about Sochi is because a Ukrainian friend of mine went there some years ago... and, at first, I thought she was talking about sushi :p

Lake Placid was recognized as the center of winter recreation in the US before the Winter Olympics were ever hosted there.

but yeah, not a very well-known fact outside of the US... or even outside of NY for that matter.

According to NHK, all heads of state are in Copenhagen right now... should be interesting, to say the least.
