also, you can find all of my other productions (and perhaps a new one! at my soundcloud page click here for SOUNDCLOUD WEBPAGE

i primarily produced this for myself and one of my best friends; both of us are going through a lot of life changes atm. hopefully if anyone else is a little apprehensive about the future as well, they can listen to this track and feel a little more relieved..

technically: the acid bassline is as close to an exact re-transcription of the original line that i could do using ABL2, which is by far the most tedious vst to program patterns i have ever used. every other synth was created in absynth4, and everything was sequenced in (yikes) FL Studio. i swear you probably won't maybe hate it.

opinions are greatly, greatly appreciated.

Hi Omega! Sorry for the delay. Since you asked for my review, here it is...

The Jimpster remix of this particular track is one of my favorite House tunes of all time, so I was a little apprehensive about hearing this. However, I have to admit that your version is really creative and great in its own way. Let me start with the things I would change, and then afterwards list the things that I like the most.

I'm clocking the tempo of the track to be around 120 BPM. I think this is really risky because I believe the standard tempo for most deep house tracks to be anywhere from 124-126. Always make sure to think about your target audience. You want to make sure your remix will blend easily into a typical deep house set. The good news is this is less of a problem now that DJ software like Ableton is around ;)

Your ending could be structured a little better. If we are assuming that your outtro begins at 6:07, then you've only given the DJ 36 bars to mix with. This will almost always cause a problem and yield a less smooth transition. A better idea is to extend the ending to 48 bars. It's sometimes recommended to keep the outtro playing longer than your intro because leaving 48 bars at the end will give the DJ enough time to cut into the next record if necessary.

Also, you may want to think about ending your track with dry beats for 16 bars (roughly 30 seconds). Since you end with the acid line, this leaves a lot of room for key-clashing. Again, this is about making sure your track is as compatible with as many other tracks as possible.

Now the good things... overall the mix is well balanced and nothing seems out of place. The sounds are all sitting well in the stereo field and there's no frequency clashing. EQ sounds real good too. As for your mixdown, I might have given your low end a tiny boost, or raise the level of your kick. It's not as easy to hear on a normal sound system like my PC speakers.

The music itself is very good, definitely something I could see many House DJs spinning. May I get a copy when you're done? :)

thanks darin

i'm trying to avoid up'ing the BPM too much, so i suppose it's just preference. i like my house from 110-120 :p

i will definitely take your advice about extending the outro and leaving some dry beats in place- definitely something i didn't actually think out, i tend to get lazy when it comes towards the end of a track, lol. i'll notch up the kick a bit too.

thanks again for the advice and constructive criticism, you're a wealth of information. congrats again on the baroque release too. and yeah i will definitely send you an update when it's done. :)
