ACE DA BRAIN THE 2009 INTERVIEW Q&As
German trance/hardtrance producer extraordinaire Ace Da Brain (Venom Records/Parabolica/Pervading Call/Airfire etc..)gives us his Q&A’s.

Where did it all start for you?
Well there are 2 possible asnwers for that question.
1. 1991 when i first heared techno.
2. My first release was 1998 on Future Recordings which was to that time a sublabel of Music Research, Germanys biggest Techno Label. The Projekt name was "Airfire" and the track name was "Rape" ... lol ... yeah sort of funny ;)
Where did the name come from?
First of all i was called "Ace" already before ... it was sort of a nick name but this name was already taken at the GEMA name registration. I was upset ... but then I came up with the idea since I was always the composer of a track inventing melodies and stuff for other DJ's ... that my name could be "Da Brain" ... the guy who always works in the back and never shows ;) But unfortunately this name was registered as well! Solely the combination of both names has not been taken ...so ... that was it :)
What gave you the initial push?
When a friend of mine showed me how to use a sequencer!
Who would you say was putting on the best events at the moment?
Can not really tell.
Which other countries have you played?
I'm a producer only. I leave spinning to the dj's.
What was the first event you ever played?
See answer above but to adept this question to may case I think on of the greatest moments was when my first record was played at the huge Paramount Park Club in the near of Frankfurt with a nation wide streaming in national radio and the crowd went crazy.
What was your first record you bought?
Pet shop boys - It's a Sin
Out of all the tunes you have, which one does the business every time?
I would say its either Sonic Inc. - The Taste of Summer or Pervading Call - Destiny
What's your favourite tune of all time, the ultimate classic?
Oh this is a tough one ... since there are quite a few tracks that I would consider as ultimate evergreens. I think I would choose anything from Gouryella or Chicane's "Saltwater".
And when all the partying is over, how do you like to relax?
In bed at home :P
How is the scene in your eyes at the moment?
Refering to the trance scene here in germany ... it's dead :((
How big is your vinyl collection? What is your opinion on CDJ's? (the pros & cons)
My vinyl collection is limited to only my productions and this takes already quite some space. Not to mention all the compilations.
The funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
When Charly Lownoise came to me and said that he had never heard a crazier record than my BACED! - Destinys Ass
Other DJs you rate?
I do not really rate dj's
Who is/are your biggest musical influences in the world of music & why?
I think the basic ones were those from ferry corsten.
What are your feelings on the MC's?
Personally I love to listen to music in its purest form ... without vocals.
What do you do outside of the dance music scene?
Trying to enjoy life as much as possible :)
What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Mc's/Promoters?
The only way to be successful is to be consistent so keep at it ... no matter if it is not running very well at the moment ... there will be better times coming :)
If you could stage an event anywhere, where would you choose?
Sensation Black/White
How do you see the scene 5 years from now?
Well ... I guess developed ... unfortunately not into much of todays styles but trance.
If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?
Go back to the 1990 with my equipment of today :)
Any shouts you would like to make?
Cheers! :) |

| 'Magic Waters' was a fine example of dreamy epic trance, although it may appear cheesy. I though he's djing in local clubs from time to time. |
