There was never a video for this track - one of the greatest tracks ever to feature in a John Hughes film: Uncle Buck.
I can't help but get a lump in my throat every time I hear this track, and if you ever read the lyrics (there's a lot of speculation as to what they actually are) they make not a huge amount of sense.
I was strolling through the jungle one day,
Met a girl, and the voice from the girl said,
"Baby would you like to come with me?
You see my daddy rolled home in his ..bottle!"
She explained to me then why her greatest thrill,
to see a house burn down at the top of the hill,
she was happy to hear the bells ring
People be baffled for, the strangest things, life brings
The rhythm of life,
such a furious thing,
He'll make you cry,
He'll make you sing,
The rhythm of life,
has a curious sound,
the beat goes on,
and the rhythm goes.. go round.
You see on that night we were so full of desire,
danced so hard until we danced higher
by the people so their hearts wouldn't harden,
by the light of the bombs in the garden.. BOOM.
Lions sigh, lovers roar, people die
so dance until you dance no more
dance till you, dance no more, come on, uh
To the rhythm of life
such a furious thing,
He'll make you cry,
He'll make you sing,
The rhythm of life,
has a curious sound,
the beat goes on,..on..
and the rhythm goes.. go round... go round
And did anybody ever tell you,
if you fly to close to the sun,
you're bound to get burned.
But once you've tasted the fruits of delerium
you're usually overflown
I don't know
Don't deny it, deep inside of you.
To the rhythm of life
such a furious thing, yeah
He'll make you cry,
He'll make you sing,
The rhythm of life,
has a curious sound,
the beat goes on,..
and the rhythm goes round
There is very limited info I can find about Hugh Harris, except for I *think* he went out with Sinead O'Connor but I'm not sure. Searching for info on him is hampered by the fact that the guitarist in The Kooks is also called Hugh Harris.
Anyway - thought some of you might appreciate a bit of insight into what I consider to be the greatest peice of music to feature in a John Hughes film, he picked plenty of total corkers, but this is the pick of the bunch.
