Can you guys recommend some easy to use mixing software? My 12 year old nephew has taken a new interest in "dance" music and is interested in taking up "djing" as a hobby. He just wants to fool around with it for now so he wont be getting a mixer / cdjs / decks or anything like that. But what program could I refer him to that would be easy for him to wrap his n00b mind around? Something simple ...

Simple, not complicated solution: Virtual DJ

For more advanced stuff i would start looking at: Traktor

Then make the Jump to: Ableton later on maybe.

But i would purchase Virtual DJ its actually not that bad of a program. Esp for a noob.

MIXXX is simple, free, and open source.

i remember buying a copy of atomix mp3 for my younger cousin who took an interest after seeing all of my gear, and watching me try and show him to mix records.. He plays completely different music but now has some 1200's of his own because of it.

Traktor LE, Duo or Pro. I go with Duo for now, you can always upgrade to Pro later and do more things with it eg midi sync with Ableton Live.

Nothing wrong with Virtual DJ, it's a straight forware application that pretty much does what it says on the tin.
But as with any of the DJ applications it also benefits from external soundcard and proper mixer.

Cheers
