| i'm running BBM5 on a Tour, not the leaked version since it has some severe memory leak. I'm running BBM5 from Appworld, the appworld version automatically swapped over all my contacts and even backed up my bbm contacts for me on the new server. |

What do you get when you plug it in, does it charge your phone at all or are you only have problems with the data connection.
If your phone charges when you plug it in to the USB it is detecting the device and providing power but not data.
Did you download the appropriate software for the model you are using?
Have you tried it on all USB ports on your computer? |

Victory! And thanks for all the assistance guys.
Z, the phone would charge with the charger, but I could never get a data connection. I did have the correct software and tried 2 computers, several usb cords, and all usb ports. It was a conundrum!
I took the phone to the sprint store yesterday and although I don't have the insurance, the phone was still covered under the manufacturer warranty and they are going to replace it.
Then came the crisis of backing it up! I couldn't get it to connect to the comp and the sprint ppl couldn't get it to either. I finally went to Best Buy and bought a bluetooth receiver for my computer. Even THAT didn't work correctly at first until randomly when I held the laptop and my friend held the blackberry in his hand. Our powers combined like in Captain Planet.
Finally got everything backed up (hooray!) and am going this afternoon to get a new crackberry.
Thanks all! |

DAMN!
So I still haven't gotten the phone exchanged yet because I wanted to verify that my backup had indeed worked.
Apparently you can back up everything on your phone via bluetooth EXCEPT the address book.
Back to pencil and paper for me... damn, I think when I synced it it said I have 394 contacts. |

| No I have doodie sprint :( They don't have a sim card. And I believe the way that they would transfer the contacts to the new phone is through the 5pin mini usb port on my phone. They tried to connect it in the store and it wouldn't work for them either. My port seems to charge the phone but for some reason can't give a data connection with the computer. They said it's defective and that they've authorized an exchange. |

im thinking...is there a way you can email yourself your address book from your phone? |

i just tried this and it worked.
Here is how to do it:
1. Go to your 'Address Book'
2. Choose the name you wish to send and click the 'Blackberry' button
3. Scroll down to 'Send as Attachment'
4. Enter your 'To' field information
5. Click 'Blackberry' button and select 'Send'
NOTE: Prior to sending you can attach more address cards by carrying out the following:
1. Click the 'Blackberry' button
2. Scroll to and select 'Attach Address'
3. Select your new address to attach
4. Then carry on as normal with the sending.
you end up receiving vcf files which automatically should open. At least when i sent two contacts to myself, they popped up. I hope i'm making sense here :nervous: :happy2: |

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! That's sick! And so helpful.
So this is what I got... I email the contacts to myself. Then I can import them into the Windows contact thingy. I'm not sure if there is going to be an easy way to then take the contacts from Windows Contact or Outlook and put them back on the new Blackberry. But at least this saves me the trouble of having to write them all down one by one.
thankyouthankyouthankyou!!
It saves them on my comp as a .vcf file. So perhaps I can somehow put them back on the new blackberry that way. Even if not, it has them all typed out nicely on my comp so at least I have them and can slowly put them in the new phone.
YAY!!! |

yeppp that sounds about right!!!
i'm glad it worked out for you. I hope you can transfer your address book from windows outlook/contact easily to your new BB!
