Hey all, here's a progressive psytrance set that I can pretty much view as the big brother of Dynamic Reflex. I sorta let things get out of hand toward the end, I couldn't help myself. ;)

Odiseo vs Jiser - Good Things
Lumbago - Flopkickers
Next - Webcam Disaster
Suntree - Persistence
Ovnimoon & Zyce - Stereo Space (Zyce & Flegma Remix)
Liquid Soul vs Freq - Liquid Frequencies
Gaudium - Just in Front
Infinity - Stratosphere
Visua - Energy (Aerospace Remix)
Liquid Soul - Adrenaline
Dickster - Dizzy Drops
Han Solo & Interference - Just A Dream

Listening:

Nice start, the first track is a real banger so I guess its gonne be "slammin'". :p

The transition at 12 min was not so good, the bassline change was way too radical imo. A bit slower track as well, I think you should've put some harder track here.

Next track comes with a bang once again. This time I think it was much more pleasant. This one is also on the same frequency as the first track. Bouncing all the way. :)

I had to close the browser but I listened to the set. What I think is the main plus here is that all the tracks you choose are really nice melodic progpsy which aren't falling into the cheesy territory.

The big minus however is that you constantly put different in tempo tracks throughout the set. Like a very powerful track, then a less powerful one, then repeat etc. The progression here wasn't really nice for a set in such length. Imo if it was a longer, live set this would work better since you can put out some energy lifters in different places of the set but here I would appreciate only banging tracks, from beginning (like you started) until the end.

Anyway, keep them coming. I enjoy it even though the flow wasn't the best one. Thanks for the share! Cheers!

Thanks for the listen. I feel like your interpretation of a hard prog-psy track is a little different from mine, the track after Flopkickers was pretty active and banging, so I don't really know what you wanted me to put there... a lot of the tracks that I listened to for this set didn't fit the bill anywhere close to the energy level that I wanted for this mix.

I had a few key clashes with those transitions, but what stuck out in your review was your feeling of poor progression... I felt like I peaked twice in this mix, I had a mini peak with Liquid Frequencies and Just in Front, and then had a very minor drop in pace, then pounding it home toward the end. In essence, I didn't think my progression was that bad, you want just a few tracks with energy sprinkled in there so that the listener doesn't get bored. With this mix, I had a hard time finding the perfect place for tracks, some of them might have been re-arranged a little better, but overall I'm happy with it. Sorry you weren't so happy with it :(

I didnt say I am not happy. I just like to point the biggest weaknesses and the biggest pluses in someone's set, just like I prefer for mine. I felt it that way. As I said the tracks were all nice, melodic etc. but some of them were blasting much more than others and what I didn't like the most is that this was way too messy imo, one banging, one more melodic etc. Not a bad thing, maybe in the right mood I would like it (or in a longer club set like I mentioned) but at the moment it had a bit of the blue-balls effect, maybe with the exception of the last section where it went straight forward. Its a nice set, dont get me wrong, I just want to criticize your weaknesses even though they get less and less with each passing set, just like I want to have my weaknesses stressed. If I have to review the set in one sentence it would be: "Melodic set, mixed decently with true progressive gems but lacking some order". :)

I appreciate the listen nonetheless, I'm glad you at least see that I try really hard to make a solid set, even though I make countless mistakes :o In my opinion, I like progressive psytrance, but a lot of it gets really boring really quickly, which is why I'm more of a full-on DJ. :p

Thanks for reviewing, I value your opinion

Okay, so I had my first listen to this yesterday - now I'm going through it to remember things.

I thought the intro track was a very good lead-in, as opposed to the last set which really just jumped into it. Nice pad at the start, kick drum (admittedly rather large) and THEN the bassline. I like a more gentle introduction into a mix, even if it's quite short. The first transition was great, very natural sounding.

The mix at the 12 minute mark was not great as Magadansky mentioned, though to disastrous. I think your problem might be phrasing. When you cue the incoming track, make sure it's done on the first beat of the track, or the first beat after a break/drop. You should then be hitting play on the incoming track after a break/drop in the track playing through the speakers, meaning they will be phrased nicely and build and break at the same time. I think this is particularly important in psy-trance because the heavy basslines don't allow a lot of blending, so you really need to take advantages of the little pauses or moments of musical confusion at the start/end of phrases in order to switch the basslines.

Overall, I think this is probably the best set I have heard from you, perhaps tying with Dynamic Reflex. As Magadansky said, there is absolutely no cheese in here bar a few unavoidable vocal samples which psy-trance producers seem fond of. The mixing is probably the best I have heard from you to - a lot of it was very smooth.

On the flow, I did not have as much of an issue with it as Mag's post would originally have led me to believe. The track that really didn't seem right to me was Persistence. It has a huge bassline and would have been better off at the end of the mix, definitely in the last 3 or 4 tracks. Other than that the flow seemed okay to me, it was only that one hiccup.

Definitely good work though. Will be listening to this a bit on the weekend for sure.

Thanks, I think that track was the least intense out of the whole set, so I'm glad I led off with it. I like the beat in that one.

I think the third track is great, idk how I blew that transition so bad! :p

I actually did this for all my transitions, however, some tracks don't break every 32 beats like most full-on or prog stuff. Some tracks tend to carry on a tad longer which sucks when one track breaks down and the other is still going. That always gets on my nerves. I was a bit late into mixing Adrenaline, that may have happened there too.

Thanks, man! I think I have completely shaken the cheese bug :D

I agree completely, the pad was way off and it was just a completely different sounding track than the previous one. However, I wanted a way to tie it into Stereo Space, and lead into the more trancier tracks in the middle portion of the mix.

My favorite bit was definitely the end, Dizzy Drops is one of the coolest regular psytrance tracks, when John 00 Fleming played it on Colorsfest 02 I just had to go buy it :p I ran into the last track on a full-on V/A compilation and knew that it would fit perfect on a prog mix. I love the prog/full-on hybrid in that last track, that's the kind of stuff I'm made of :p

I appreciate it, I listened to Contact in the car again yesterday :p

I just gave the set one more listen and I must say this is totally correct. Since the first time as I said in the first post I lost my focus primarily on the set after around 20 min I felt it like the progression was too messy but I think it was much better than the one I explained in the post, so I stand corrected in my exaggeration.
