I never care whether it's a troll thread or not, and I don't want mods. I thought I'd got away from controller when I left school? Why do some people need the security of mods, where all grown up's ffs. If you don't like a thread, don't read it:toothless
As for Eric, a seemingly simple catchy track that the public can engage with is a much harder trick to pull off compared to some uber complex scoring. This reminds me of film critics that applaud small deep art house french films, but scorn the latest Will Smith epic.
Also as I've long argued, it is very difficult to come up with a killer mixdown. ABBA's sucess was largely based on thier unique mixes, NOT the scoring. The public dont know why they are draw to certain mixes, they just are. There are tons of would be producers that can come up with music theory complex scores, yet very few that can release a more 'simple' track with a great vibe. Eric is a master of the delivery, along the lines of Steven Spielberg is for films. |

Wow, you couldn't be more off base. Mods are needed for many reasons but mainly to stop a small precentage of people wrecking it for many serious contributors. And we're getting mods so I'm afraid your going to have to deal with it.
I can't actually belive that I'm about to get in to an ABBA production techniques conversation on here but you're completely deaf and/or stupid if you think the sucess of ABBA is becuase the mixdowns are good (which they are in fairness) - It's becuase they knew how to write stunningly simple, catchy tunes. PERIOD.
Bjorn has even commented as such - that he had a "magic touch" for writing catchy lyrics and music, that was simple yet appealed to many.
The engineers don't get the credit for this one I'm afraid and you're on crack if you think they should. |

Simple tunes don't sound good without a spiffy mix, and the 'catchyness' is largely due to the sound.

Yeah, but there's absolute failboat load of choons with good mixes, that never get anywhere for that exact reason. A good mix helps a well written catchy track but it won't help a crap tune much will it?
Good mixes aren't that hard to come by - simple, catchy tunes are.
If we could all do it then we'd be damn rich. |

No joke, if I could pop out catchy melodies like Paul McCartney or Don Henley I bet I could convince an awesome engineer to do my mixdowns for me anyway as they would be smart enough to see hit potential in even a rough track.

Eh IMO it's the exact opposite. 
the mix and the song are one imo
paul mccartneys "blackbird" melody for instance wouldnt be the same if its melody was used in some ty fruityloops trance tune, i would of never given the tune a second glance.
even if it was sung and played by someone else, or say he used an electric guitar or piano instead of guitar, i don't think the track would be as catchy.
take the little 8bit melody from wolfgang gartner - firepower, is it catchy? hell yes. would i of cared if i heard it in a classical song? no. Is it what makes this tune catchy? no not really.. the 'catchiness' is holistic |

Exactly - I can tell you right now that if you were able to pop tunes like that, there would be a dozen mix engineers to choose from who'd beat your door down to do it.
Ninja - I think you're confusing the PRODUCTION and the mix up. Mix is just taking what's there and doing the best you can with it. The production defines the instruments, the sounds, the singers and sometimes the composition etc. And different things work in differnt mediums so a pop production might not work as a classical peice and vce varsa if you get my point. |

Well, I usually refrain from participating in these sorts of threads, but since he's been attracting so much attention here lately, I decided to give Mr. Prydz's work a listen on Rhapsody yesterday and see what all the hype is about. As far as the sound of his mixes/production go, I wouldn't say they suck, but I don't see what the big deal is. They sound OK, but I occasionally hear mixes by unknowns on forums everyday that sound as good or better IMO. And, the key point there is that it's just my opinion.
But, I busted out laughing for a few seconds before before breaking into violent vomiting episodes when I heard his remix of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall". I was a pretty big fan of early PF back in the 70s (yeah, I'm old), but when that song was released I was nauseated by it within a week. His stupid remix makes me puke even more as do the numerous remixes of his remix. I sincerely hope karma is real and he gets run over by a large manure-hauling truck for doing what he did to my ears (no offense meant to anyone who actually likes that pile of s#!* excuse for a song). :p |
