Easiest way to do it... even if you only back it up once a month or something. It's balls easy to intergrate a gmail account into Outlook and once you import all your emails into Outlook, you just save your PST. Done...

Carry on using GMAIL with the web interface for a month or two, then go back to OUTLOOK, save/backup your PST again...

The problem I'm having with Outlook though is that it won't even let me set up an account. I type in my Gmail and my password...and it keeps saying it's wrong and to contact support. I try to navigate my way through the support page to see where I can contact someone and said screw it and have downloaded Thunderbird. I'm still in the process of trying to figure out how to use it.

If I can get Outlook to work, I would gladly use it just to back things up if I can do as you say...AND keep my folders - which is essential.

Edit: Check your PMs.

Lisa when I used outlook about 8 yrs ago I am sure you have to set up your email.....ie: what smtp server to use. what email address you are using. not sure if you can use gmail or not been awhile.

but you definitely need what your outgoing mail server address will be and your incoming. they are call SMTP and POP servers.

If I lose my happy cat pictures, I honestly don't think I could go on.

+1

I'm pretty sure there is 0.0000000000000000000000000000001% chance that Google will lose your stuff.

If anything, someone will hack Google and then you can ask him politely for a copy of your cat photos!

:D

But how did they get there? You are not good with computers.

It is a mystery!

For those interested, I stumbled on this: http://www.gmail-backup.com/
It's a LOT easier and quicker then outlook.

Holly sh*t I've never seen so much chaos unless it's Lisa asking for advice ...

Your mail will be fine in gmail, hotmail has been around for years and yet I don't recalling a single data lose.

If you really have importaint data like that, why is it stored in gmail as a primary source? What happens if your HD on your computer dies? Shouldn't you have a backup of it, in another form if an offline source?

Well since your that paranoid, you should be backing up your HD 2x to be safe.
A) Another pHD or massive USB key
B) DVDs

TBH the stuff isn't THAT important, which is why I've kept it on Gmail. It's mainly emails from school sorted by class, keepsake emails I want to keep, vacation stuff, reservations/order confirmations and stuff. If my stuff is lost it's not the end of the world, but I would like to save it from being lost to save myself time and added stress if it were. To have to go through and manually save every email would be a waste of my time when I can just sort it in Gmail.

As for my HD, it's definitely backed up...x5 (desktop, laptop, family computer + 2 externals, on top of the backups mine and the family computer does on its own).
