No, you don't need a physical ilok usb, but apparently you need the ilok software/driver. I was also confused about that ilok stuff, but it runs just fine here without usb ilok. This free plugin works much much better than most software compressors at bringing out the attack (transients) of sounds! SDM wtf is a transient designer? sounds like a compressor to me dannib Transient designer works in a completely different way to a compressor. It is completely different altogether. SPL's transient designer is one of the most popular pieces of outboard gear ever created. Almost Every studio has at least one. Read This Cant believe some of you havnt heard of transient design?
