So the government should be allowed to tell you what to do in your own house? If it is legal, I should be able to do whatever I want.

Personally I would never smoke in my own house, but I want to have that choice.

I will complain once it personally touches my freedoms
so far I have no probs with most of the bans

no...it's not human nature at all. It's being self absorbed and not seeing the bigger picture. The younger generation doesn't fight for its freedoms anymore....instead they look the other way because it doesn't affect them directly. Then one day something affects them directly and they bitch and scream about it...by then its too late...the precedent has been set.

oh I see the big picture alright
and I've been affected by the stupidity of the system and those who run it, and I've learned my lesson - 90% bitching and screaming doesn't get you anywhere

maybe your generation should vote for better politicians next time?

Apartments are one thing.....as you only pay rent and if the owner of the building wants to make it a smoke free building then I don't see a problem with that provided new rental contracts are written up.

As for condos...if I bought it then no one has a right to say I can't smoke in it.

As for non-smokers...if you don't like it....ing move. Why should the smokers have to stop when there is nothing illegal about it. If you don't like the environment you are in you remove yourself from that environment.

As for the government having a say.... the government right in the ass.

Yep. Understandable if it's a rental however if I buy it, screw them. I own it, piss off.

Wait, easy there. Aren't you guys on the same page in terms of wanting the change? If voting can change it, vote?

For me even if it doesn't affect me directly I don't want to wait until a point where it might because by then it's too late and the BS has already started.

This is exactly the attitude that is sending canada to hell.

Because the same mentality will pervade your lifestyle. To complain about one ban and not another in this fashion is called hypocrisy.

Whether it be rental apartments or condos, if you dont want people to smoke in the building, dont rent it out. They changed the law to allow the right to have pets. Its illegal in ontario for rentals to say "no pets". So why the assault on smokers?

Curry and ethnic cooking bugs me. Sometimes it makes me choke as its so strong. But guess what? Thats part of living in a condo. When i can afford a new house, i wont have to smell it. Until then its my problem!!

Same with smoking.

Exactly...

And the same mentality will be and is used against my lifestyle choices.

We either tolerate living in a society with diverse lifestyles, or we become north korea.

No, it's called "Toronto nature", or, more generously, "big city nature."

Spend some more time outside your own little downtown bubble and you may find that there really are people who care about the rights of others, even if it doesn't directly affect them. Even from the most egocentric, mathematical angle, if you're not willing to fight for anybody else, then you can't expect them to fight for you when the time comes.

Sorry, but I do not believe that you're some grizzled vet at sociology and life in general, speaking out of incontrovertible experience and wisdom. I am cynical. You're just selfish.
