WATERLOO, Ont. -- Stephen Hawking confirmed he is coming to the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ont., next summer for a month.
Hawking, 67, based in the United Kingdom, made the announcement in a video news conference Saturday.
Arguably the world's best-known living physicist was to have come this summer to assume duties as a research chair at the institute. The trip was postponed due to illness.
The institute also announced Saturday that a new wing at its facility in downtown Waterloo will be named the Stephen Hawking Centre at Perimeter Institute.
Hawking said the institute's chosen focus on quantum theory and space-time, is close to his heart.
"With a mix of excellent scientists, inspirational visitors, and first-rate students recruited from around the world, I expect exciting discoveries will be made," Hawking said.
"Expanding the perimeter of knowledge will be the key to our future," he added.
His remarks helped launch the institute's Expanding the Perimeter campaign, a planned doubling in size of the think-tank for theoretical physics. The Hawking wing will cost $30 million and is now under construction.

2. there a extremely good possibility that he will take a residence in waterloo.
