It said the results appeared surprising given that modern women had been liberated from their traditional 1950s role of housewife.
Instead, their earning power has soared, women are doing better than men in education and they are in control of decisions over whether to start a family.

im not sure that women 'have it all' despite 'feminism'. i think like democracy, women's liberation seems to have become a more sinister, indirect form of servitude.
for example, after women's 'liberation', women are apparently free to dress the way they want and practice polygamy, etc. however, the net result of this is a greater number women with self esteem problems...
but beyond this even is the role of media and celebrity in our culture, both of which could easily account for a decrease in happiness, not the least because of the way it has caused men and their expectations of women to change. One form of sexism has been supplanted by another form.

Greater opportunity = greater expectations of one's self = increased stress = less happiness.
We've gone from a society where all that women were expected to do in the 50-60s was raise kids and take care of the home. Now they have a big part of generating the income for the family. This story has been circulating the internet for about a month now and I'm not sure why everyone is so shocked. |
