My first poll, if too controversial, moderators please delete it 8]. But I've been thinking about this for some time due to the new legal restrictions in my country that are going for about a year or more now.
In my opinion there are two elements that drugs should be judged by:
1. Physical addiction (psychological addiction doesn't count IMO, TV or Internet or games can be psychologically addictive too, and they're not drugs are they?)
2. Possibility of serious health problems arising from large doses or overdose
What's your opinion? |

Good someone decided to talk about it! It's hard to decide whether something is a more of a drug or not. Sometimes, some people, for some reason, decide to use something to forget about reality and/or experience some sensations that (s)he believes would not be possible to feel without that thing: it's absolutely human. It doesn't mean you need to use a chemical substance to do it: You may do it with music, food, sex (though I think that doing it for such purpose is completely sad and disrespectful), or anything else...
I would never condemn someone for doing it, however, those who use illegal drugs must be aware that when they use this kind of thing, they're supporting a whole criminal system. And when you smoke something (pot or cigarettes) you're not the only one affected by it (those surrounding you, inhaling, will be affected as well). Therefore, I considered pot and cigarettes more of a drug than alcohol, though this is a drug too.
Finally, we all know that some things are more dangerous than other. I'm not talking about overdose, but about side effects. Remember that for everything you do, something else will happen. If you smoke too much, you'll probably get a cancer, if you smoke pot too much, wave your neurons (is this the correct word?) good-bye. If you want to die, overdosing will be a lot faster and less painful (for you only, because for those who like you, it'll be painful anyway). You may not care about it today, but you'll never now how tomorrow will be like, think about it.
Also, if you're a moderator, I would warmly ask not to delete this poll: it can be a lot useful and we shouldn't look at this issue with prejudice.
Hope I didn't sound like a relative or a high school teacher :D |

cigs. and heres why
pot: used much more infrequently and for short periods of time. It isnt physically addictive, but it is a habit forming thing. There are a few exceptions as always who smoke entirely too much weed, but on the whole its a relatively harmless past time. AND you can eat weed, and dont even need to smoke it.
cigs: Physically and psychologically addictive. Needs an ever increasing amount to satisfy. Usage goes up and up and gets prolonged so you are smoking several at one time. It goes into your lungs which were never made to process smoke. Their only job is to put O2 into your blood. causes cancer, emphysema etc...
alcohol: although physically addicting also, is easier to control as the social pressures surrounding it usually dictate an "after 5, with people" attitude. its usually held to the weekends. And your liver takes the brunt of the alcohol. The livers only job in life is to process toxins, which too much alcohol is. The studies actually show that moderate drinking increases health and life span. The 3 oldest people on earth drank a glass of wine every day. |

I consider cigarettes more of a drug than anything because there's chemical (s) in it which will ultimately kill you if you smoke them long enough. Cigarettes can be physically and mentally addictive, which is terrible.
Alcohol isn't nearly as bad as cigarettes, mainly because the "craving" can be controlled MUCH easier than cigarettes. Plus, it's harder to die or get life-threatening disease with it.
That's why I picked Marihuana/Cannabis/Pot/Weed/etc. |
