Sounds a little messed up but damn this was the real Umek, man I just dont get why he would switch to such a boring genre :/
Btw Mayday 2002 is probablly one of the best of all time, great artists like Paul Van Dyk,Denki Groove,Umek(Old),Westbam,Tiga and many more
Video's are mad cool too. |

I don't like what Umek is playing these days either, but the whole loop/tool techno-schtick he became famous for was starting to sound VERY stale around 2003-4. People were just fed up of being assaulted by percussion loops and mixer delay on three decks for hours on end, which is one of the main reasons techno as a genre moved into minimalism to such an extent.
It has to be said though, walking into a huge venue like Mayday only to hear house and minimal techno at 130 BPM just has to feel very....anti-climactic. Especially when you consider that people like Steve Mason and Raver's Nature used to belt it out there a couple of years back. |

I only recently started to discover old school techno(I mean I had heard it on and off before I started really getting into electronic music)
Yeah going into Mayday only to be greeted with some boring minimalistic isnt my idea of a good time tbh.
I wish Umek would have atleast started doing trance : ( |
