Unfortunately, I think the gist of the idea would be that the RIAA wouldn't care where you initially got the files, only that you were sharing them.
I agree that proving if you own the music on your HD or not is almost impossible without a search warrant and other extreme measures... (which'd be much more trouble then they'd be worth...) the problem is that the recording industry is balls out crazy about stamping out piracy while failing to realize that it's here to stay.
The digital revolution and the ability of people to swap music is not going to be even minorly slowed by any of this...even without P2P (which simply isn't going to be killed, ever IMHO) people could still swap hand burned CD's amongst each other and what the hell is the government going to try and do about that?
To my mind the problem isn't piracy, it's the ridiculous price of music...if CD's cost $5 a piece like they should you wouldn't have people d/ling everything. I know I still buy the actual vinyl or CD's when they're reasonably costed and released domestically (since importing stuff costs waaay too much dinero) but I don't blame people who refuse to give the majors penny numero uno.
The industry needs to wake the up and realize that it's created it's own problems and that the only answer is reducing costs...if they did I wouldn't be surprised to see sales (in dollars) to not only stay put, but increase significantly... |

You hit it perfectly! It's the PRICES of CDs that make people DL music! I walk into a Tower Records and see CDs priced at USD $15.99+. Isn't that rediculous (sp?)? Imports are even more higher! In fact, they're 2.5 TIMES higher! I see those for about $30 - $40! I understand import costs but, who's going to pay $40 for a CD that's only 45 minutes long and there's only ONE TO THREE songs on it that are actually good! I don't care about the RIAA suing me because they never will know who I am!!! |

Agreed. If I didn't have to pay 40 bucks Canadian for a Tunnel Trance Force CD that was released a year ago then I just might buy them on a regular basis. |

EXACTLY!! Imports are like $30-$40...considering that almost all trance albums where i live are imported...I'll never buy a trance cd for as long as I live!! Unless i see it at a reasonable price of course :) but regular cds r like $16-20...I'm sure if cds went down to $5 their sales would increase significantly and they would be able to go diamond...what I hate is that it's always the ppl with millions of dollars complaining...they make more money off 1 album than i would in a lifetime, so i don't see what's so bad about that!

they closed napster,i downloaded from kazza then AG (because kazza is dog wank), AG got shut down, now i download from the dc hub, by the time they close kazza & dc hub, there will be about another 20 one's too download off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they will never win, iam also betting that the people that run the RIAA probely download mp3'z as much as anyone else does!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, its impossible because its a) an invasion of privacy and b) there arent laws strictly governing it. Not to mention there are SO many people who trade.
That said, im somewhat of a target because last month i used 23 gigs down and 18 gigs up of mp3s and movies, and my cable company only likes me using less than 6gigs down and 2 up. Ah well, they sent me a nasty letter.

The artist, producers and fat, lazy executives form the RIAA to prevent loss of money.
In one hand I do understand why the RIAA was form, since the music that artists and producers worked on soo hard are given out freely. My main concern is what goes thru these RIAA executives minds when they think of a way to solve the problem? Some of these idea and solutions they have, have the thoght process of a monkey scratching its ass.
"Let's sue EVERYONE that has an illegal mp3!" <---WTF? Who in their right mind would of thought to sue every person that has an illegal mp3.
I think that the music industry is declining and they are grasping for solutions and are given ideas from people that have lost touch with the real world. or reality. I totally agree in supporting an artist I like, but would give a rats ass for those that I don't CHOSE to listen to. I'm just waiting for the RIAA's next idea:
