Suddenly felt the urge to learn some history and now I'm interested to know anything you have to share about this day (tradition, US and rest of the world opinions) I'm more interested in people's own opinions of the day and what it symbolises as opposed to historical facts.... anyone care to share? :)
enlighten me.....:D |

well, what many people don't know is that Paul Revere never shouted "The British are coming! The British are coming!"
Since everyone considered themselves as British at the time, it's more probable that he would have said "The Red Coats are Coming!"
Also, Paul Revere never actually made it to warn the minutemen of the Red Coat march toward Lexington and Concord -- he was captured and it was his fellow rider (I forget his name) that informed the minutemen of the Red Coats.
Another thing that should be mentioned is the fact that the Boston Massacre wasn't actually a massacre. The stupid Bostonians started throwing stuff at a soldier. The soldier was forced to call for back up as a mob started to form around him. Threatend with their lives, the soldiers decided to open fire. Being the good, disciplined soldiers they were, they were able to keep the casualty number to a minimum. Only 5 people were killed, a few were wounded -- all of whom got what they deserved. How could they be so stupid as to throw rocks, sticks, and snowballs at armed men?
Just a few facts for you. :-) |
