They run the laser in a circle very fast so it looks like a tube, the smoke makes the texture.
My favorite is lasers off a discoball. Laser rain.

this is nothing. i died when i saw the lasers at privilege at tiesto this summer. it took me 30min to figure out how they did it.
check this vid and have in mind, the image isnt projected on the backwall of the room. it is suspended in midair in the middle of the goddam room.
