| any credence given to djmag's polling for the ever-so-dubious title of "best dj in the world" as anything more than some publication's ingenious effort to heighten its own brand value through its highly lucrative industry marketing tool, is based upon unequivocal ignorance. the model is designed to serve those in the scene who have no sense of direction, no innate curiosity and no interest in expanding their perspective, those that need to be weened towards the most catchy, commercial, unchallenging sounds in the electronic music world, and consequentially those who will pay through the nose for the name on the flyer. quite often these are your rave-circuit djs. this isn't a trance vs house thing, the #1 trance dj and #1 house dj are equally unrepresentative of both genres, but what is most unrepresentative to the world of edm itself is how heavily distorted the balance is between trance and house and everything else. as a popularity contest, it more accurately represents how commercialized each genre is at that time. and since house music encompasses such a broader swath of sounds and scenes than trance, the poll ends up illustrating brilliantly in which scene you'll find the most sophisticated beats. |

In the end, it's only people opinions and preference in music. A poll that is taken from only "one" (DJMAG) organization only validates the interest of their followers. It only represents the group that actually voted which is a fairly small amount of listeners when compared to a global scale of EDM listeners.
Over and over, many get into which is better... House vs Trance! Is there really an valid answer? It really just comes down to what people like by choice. Whether they are educated or not on the finer details of who produce it or the type of equipment that was use... does it really matter?
The individual is going to like music for their own reasons... and to those on here that completely preach or try to justify why their "type" is better is wasting their time. It only tells the forum that you are not open to other preferences and mainly focus on getting others to agree with the opinion that take place in that noggin of yours.
In the end I LOOOVE trance over house, but hell what ever makes you feel good and smile, simply enjoy it! It's music people. Take it for the ride, either 140+ bpm or slower stuff! |
