Critique on mixdown, sounds, all that good stuff, please!

After a long break from production, I restarted about a month ago, this time armed with samples, loops, Komplete 5 (Though I'm still learning a lot, I've got a decent enough knowledge of FM8 thanks to JBJ :) ), and a couple AAS plugins.
If you guys can rip me to shreds on synth programming, variety, mixdown, or anything, I'd appreciate it!
Mind you it's meant to be trance, so yeah, loltrance...Not too unicorn-y though, imho. ;)

Honestly.
* I dislike the kick
* I dislike the clap
* Drum rythm sounds very static (try shuffle, using more dynamics, more different samples)
* The drums sound to seperated, it doesn't sound as one coherent rythm but more as seperate parts.
* Bassline is kind of cool. It's more of a mid rythm and would be cool with some real bass ;)
* The mids are fairly busy with the synths action going on. Try to separate the instruments more by EQ and other effects possibly.
* I'm not a fan of the chord progression.
* The sound filtering in on 3:40 is a bit weird hehe. I'd like to hear it more upfront. Because of all the effects it sounds kind of background ish.
* The chords come in, they're fairly harsh. I'd tame the high end a bit.
* Then I think it will lift off but instead the chords disappear and another builup starts. Weird.
* Then some type of climax follows with the first filtering lead.
Very rough mix in my opinion. Tons of work to be done although it must be said that it doesn't sound as bad as I'm portraying. |

Thanks for the tips, Storyteller...I was in kind of a rush to just finish out the track in terms of content yesterday, and in retrospect, that build is indeed awkward...Will fix.
I have a sine bass under that mid-bass, but I can't really get that to come through without it clipping...Any suggestions on how I can get a real bass in there? ;)
I can tone the highs on those chords down, no problem there...Again, late at night, etc.
Regarding the clap, I've got two going in there, the synthetic one and the 'real' one (That hits on 'and-4')...Which one are you disliking? |
