Hard Disk Problem

K guys i have a serious problem here.
Ive got a hard disk where all my mp3s are stocked (like 30gigs)
and this ing windows is telling me right now that theres nothing on the disk and that i should format it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any1 knows what can i do?
(I didnt format the disk this thing has just happened right now)!!!!!!
Help i ve got a seagate barracuda

Reboot your computer and see if it say something at the startup, then you can check the cables and bios settings Also look for settings in Windows (What version do you use?) and test the disk in another computer....

Right. Ummmmm. Check the ide cables, one might be lsightly lose. The seagate hard drives r not very good, or atleast dont have a very good reputation. I have a 40gig one at my dads.
So hopefully it hasnt dont what a lot do, which is where the ball inside wears through the case and s the hard drive.
But maybe try it with a different ide cable first. And make sure it is setup a slave, but if it has worked before this shouldnt be the problem :) |

ok i tried a few things this is not working on another ide cable and this is not working on another computer.
Conclusion: Im gonna kill myself

You can try using a utility to recover the hard drive, Norton probably makes one. If you go to Seagates website they will have recovery software there too.
Here is some advice for the future:
1. If you don't want to risk losing your data, back it up!
2. I use Ghost to make a copy of the entire drive or partition.
3. Buy more than one hardrive (they are so cheap). I use a tray/rack setup that allows me to swap drives.
4. Use one drive for system and another for your data (for easy backup). |

K i think i found what the problem is:
The files on the HD are Filetype unknown instead of Fat32
I just need to convert them in fat32 again but i dunno how |

Le principe du FAT 32 c'est d'être d'une table d'allocation de fichier, en clair c'est le sommaire de ton bouquin qui indique ou se trouve les chapitres.
Si ce sommaire vient^à disparaitre c'est comme si toutes les pages avaient volées en l'air et qu'il fallait que ton ordinateur les remettent dans l'odre pour lire le bouquin.
Soit t'as de la chance et tu trouve un programme qui te remet ça dans l'ordre genre partition magic petit exemple :
Votre disque dur étant bien installé, il va falloir maintenant apprendre à bien l'organiser afin de vous simplifier la vie au maximum. Une bonne organisation de son disque passe avant tout par un bon partitionnement qui conviendra aux besoins et aux utilisations de chacun. Nous allons vous proposer ici une organisation type, qui conviendra au plus grand nombre d'entre-vous mais rien ne vous empêchera, une fois que vous aurez compris le principe, d'ajouter votre petite touche personnelle.
Pour organiser et créer les différentes partitions qui nous serons nécessaires, il sera conseillé de faire appel à un logiciel commercial très connu : Partition Magic, qui présente l'avantage de pouvoir gérer, modifier, créer, supprimer et convertir des partitions sans la moindre difficulté et ce grâce à son interface graphique. Mais nous reviendrons plus en détails sur ce logiciel dans la rubrique "utilitaires" de ce dossier. Si vous le maîtrisez suffisament bien vous pouvez également utiliser le traditionnel FDISK de Microsoft.
et je te conseille de l'utiliser si il ne marche pas pour rétablir ta FAT (ton sommaireà alors ton dsik est mort. formate et retélécharge tt ce que tu peux.

Un dernier truc fdisk est incorporé sur chaque système de windows donc kan t'installe un windows il cherche à vérifier si la fat est valide.
Donc si partiion magic ne marche pas réinstalle un système d'exploitation sur le disk en question et demande de convertir ton disk en fat 32. S'il te rép^te de l'effacer, c'est que tes mp3 sont éparpillés comme la bible en plein vent et les feuilles sont tellement dispersées que c'est mort pour le reconstistuer m partiellement. => ton disk est vraiment mort en tt cas, ttes tes données sont perdues.

J'ai refait une partie de ma collec en deux jours là bas.

| obviously the bios is detecting the drive or it wouldn't be visible at all in windows. Having said that if it says filetype unknown then it sounds like the HDD has crashed or lost it's data which isn't good |
