EWQL Symphonic Orchestra

Hi folks,

I'm seriously considering buying THIS product, but would like to ask a question before doing so.

The Silver complete edition prices around £100, which I think seems very reasonable judging by it's capabilities and audio demos. Now, the other editions are quite expensive, for instance, the Platinum Edition is around £550, but it has a massive 194GB library, whereas this only has 11GB.

I wish to know if the extra cash gets you remarkably better features or not, keeping in mind that my music won't be fully orchestral based :p All I would like is a few Strings, Flutes and whatnot throughout my pieces, but nothing major. I couldn't seem to find an answer as to what instruments the Silver edition includes compared to the others.

I'm also picking up their Symphonic Choirs product. Can't wait to try it :)

Thanks in advance!

I assume that you're aware of the buy-one-get-one-free promotion going on at EW right now?

Sorry, I can't help with EWQLSO, but I do have EWQLSC and it's great. FYI - a lot of people have had problems with the PLAY engine (stability, GUI display issues). I had a lot of problems with the PLAY engine (primarily with Voices of Passion) particularly with earlier versions that I was using on XP and Vista, but ever since upgrading to Windows 7 and using the latest updates it's been flawless.

if you are just going to use legato or staccato articulations and the music will be mixed with other elements, It is enough.

Owsey - have you considered/compared the Garritan Personal Orchestra? I've had limited use with that and it's in the same price range, but I don't know how it compares to EWQLSO. RichieV - have you used it?

@Cryo: I had no idea there was promotion going on. Thanks for pointing that out! I've actually just came across it now on their homepage. At least this will give me more choices. I'm still a Vista user, but if needed be I'll upgrade to W7.

@Richie: I might go for the Gold Edition now, seeing as there's a "buy one get one free". That way I'd have all articulations + instruments.

I have tried the platinum version. It is cumbersome for real orchestral work but it will work for anything that doesn't require intricate articulations. If you are just adding it to dance music, it will be more than enough.
