| Good first effort. And your far braver than me in posting your first effort. I assume your after constructive criticism which is what we all need. Firstly I think the intro is way to long. Listen to the majority of trance tunes and they have a usually have a small break after about 50 secs to a minute. this makes it a lot easier for a dj to drop it in. Even if u want a nice long intro its nice to give a dj something to work with rather than having to drop it in without any real punch. Also at the end of the break your melody and synth are quite right. slightly off key. too my ear anyway. hope u dont think i'm being an ass but I've listened to it 2-3 times so at least I'm giving it a good go.I think u might have a tune there but it needs tightening up a bit. hope this helps |

I am a n00b like I tell everybody but I can give you a few opinions.
First of all nice first attempt, sounds good for a first (even second or third). Ok here what I noticed.
1. Drums need to be clearer; they are kind of off volume as the hats and stuff sound kind of loud and the drums do not have much punch. I blame this on your drum library, you should consider acquiring the Vengeance Drum kits or equalizing those a bit more.
2. Bass line is too boring. The whole time the bass line is playing continuously. Try cutting the base line (you can use the same scale, just give it some groove). When you change the baseline you will notice the song will pick up a lot more.
3. Some sounds around 4:20-4:50ish sound off key, check that out.
4. The song seems to be over compressed, you can even tell by looking at the wave drawings, try to have the sounds in the breakdown be a little lower and then let them pick up. It seems you have a compressor on the master channel working to the max and that is not good. Try placing the compressors on each channel and equal the sounds as you want them to (specially drums), on the master channel you can place a limiter. If you insist on keeping that bass line throughout the song consider side chaining. (Youtube Sidechaining with the program you have, I use Logic so I searched for compressor sidechaining for LOGIC 9)
5. Work on the way the song progresses, listen to a famous song and use a similar layout as far as 1. Intro (some kicks for the DJs), 2. Build-Up (Introduce some nice synths and strings w.e); 3. Breakdown ; 4. Climax, then finish 5. Outro.
6. Post in the right forum if you want more help and get to know others that produce here.
Do not get me wrong, you are doing well so far! |
