so looks like they are deliberately withholidng the tockens - all stations I passed through today has "sold out" signs
wtf?!
anyone knows where they still sell 5 tockens at least? |
probably not... im sure either they are making them scarce or there really has been a huge run on tokens. Just shows you how ill thought out this hike is and how people really cant afford it. |

The problem isnt so much a funding problem with the TTC as it is a spending problem.
Why is the TTC crying poor and then shelling out a billion dollars on new street cars that no one needs?
|
had they not spent the money for new ones, you'd be complaining about ttc's delapidated 30 yo streetcars

Wrong..
first most of the streetcars are 20-25 years old.
Second im a firm believer in making due in a time of crisis. I dont care if its the best of the best as long as it works, is safe, and gets you there.
Third, streetcars should be used until their lifespan ends. Retired. And then replaced with buses with an eye on subways and trains in the future. Streetcars are an antiquated idea that dont work in toronto anymore except on a few dedicated LRTs already built. |

actually... a right wing government would probably have more money to spend on infrastructure as they typically dont fund arts, gun registries and other non essentials. They also arent as friendly to unions and tend to keep their pay more in line thus lowering costs.

Come on man, it was the Harris Governemnt who Cut TTC funding by 40%. It's the Liberals fault for not working to fix this obvious hole.
Instead of bitching about the TTC we should be writing letters to our MPP's to bring back funding.
As much as many (myslef included) would like to see the TTC cut spending and lower salaries of its employees and even automate many jobs the reality is this will never happen unless we're willing to deal with some long term labour unrest. |

Harris cut from EVERYTHING to get us out of the mess that Bob Rae And Peterson got us into.
And its going to be even more painful this time around since the hole is literally twice the size.
It wont be the left wing willing to piss of the unions... the right will do it since unionists dont vote for the right anyways. |

| People are stockpiling on tokens but why? the ttc will most likely design new ones so they can tell the difference between the old ones and new ones. |

im willing to bet they will stop tokens until march or april and force everyone in jan using a token to add a quarter. This is what they are doing now with the new temporary tickets they are giving out instead of tokens.
Toronto has perfected the art of fleecing. I swear they must have PHDs in rip off artistry. |

Doubt it. That's a massive undertaking to re-fit every auto entrance that takes the old tokens. |

This is why they have stopped selling tokens in bulk and started selling tickets.
Even at the places that are still selling tokens - they are only selling them for single-fare now (not even letting you get 5 I think), and at the vending machines they have been setup to only sell 1 token at a time.
Harder to retrofit all of the booths to accept a new token - so prevent as much bulk-buying as possible, force people to buy tickets that they can easily identify as being new or old, and force you to put in an extra 25c in Jan once the rates go up. |
