Switching from Vinly to CD's

| So I've decided to switch from vinyl to CD's this season. I'm interested in getting a least one CD deck. Are the CDJ's 200 solid decks, or are they pretty limited? |

Get decks that have vinyl mode on them.
400, 800, 900, 1000, 2000lol
the emulation is quite close so you'll be able to pick it up in no time. And all the other ones besides the 400 have a bigger platter to jog about with. |

The lack of vinyl mode is the only thing really "missing" from the 200 which you might find useful switching from vinyl. Other than that, yes it's a solid deck.
(in case you don't know, vinyl mode lets you cue and scratch like vinyl by moving the jog wheel, while "CDJ mode" stutters when you pause so that you can accurately set a cue point before just pressing play to start it)
I actually think the CDJ400 is one of the best decks on the market (as well as doubling up as functionally the best MIDI controller for DJing bar the CDJ 2000 IMO), so if you can stretch to one of them I don't think you'd be disappointed. It's got the afformentioned vinyl mode, plus things like encorporating playback via USB (off a memory stick or directly from your PC), so you don't have to burn CDs to have a mix at home. It's also got wide pitch mode (+/-100%), which is good fun :) (but the 200 lacks)
But if you just want to give it a go, the 200 isn't a bad place to start by any means. |

Yeah I was looking at the CDJ 400, but the only thing is that you can get 2 200's for about 550USD, and only 1 400 for that same price
Or should i get a pair of denon? |

| Considering you're coming from vinyl, it'd really be worth it for you to have a deck with vinyl-mode capabilities (basically any pios besides the 200s). 400s at the very least but if you want a full side platter, go with the 800 mk2s. I've got a pair, they're great. They may be out of your price range, but you're gonna want vinyl mode. |

In my experience, CDJs replicate the feel of vinyl so poorly that whether or not they have the function becomes irrelevant. They will never accurately reproduce the feel of a record pulling against you.
Two pieces of advice though:
1. Don't buy Denon, they are rubbish and cheap for a reason.
2. Don't buy a CDJ 200 - the wheels on them are inconsistent and lack feel. Definitely go for a 400, or if you can afford it, an 800. |

Yeah obviously they're two totally different things. No way "vinyl mode" is just like real vinyl, but he should still go for that because it's the closest thing out there to real vinyl. The Denon 3700 might actually be right up his alley with the spinning platter.
That said, I'd still go Pio. |

Well I'm not looking to go to CD's, and just use it in vinyl mode basically doing the same thing. I want to use it like a CDJ, otherwise I would have just stuck to my DVS.
I was thinking about an 800, but didn't a lot of people say the 400 was better sans large job wheel? |

Yeah I'd definitely go 400 over 800 if you're willing to take the hit on the size of the platter. |

I'm well confused by this thread - why on earth would you want to buy an entry level CDJ when you already have turntables and a DVS?
You want to spend $500 to get the feel of stutter type cuing? Really?

maybe he wants one to practice on, since most clubs have cd players.
i'd say go for the cdj200, even if the jog wheel isnt the best thing. its not even that bad lol. the pitch on the cdj200 is pimp, you can bend it in pretty quick, then you barely have to adjust. its great value. |
