Pacha NYC presents the Pacha NYC debut of legendary DJ/Producer Bob Sinclar on Friday, January 8th, 2009. Currently touring on his Born in 69 (Yellow), Sinclar is ready to show NYC what peace, love and flower power is all about.

When describing Bob Sinclar's new album he responded with, “I got the concept of Born In 69 by brainstorming around the theme of peace, love and flower power.” With this mantra in mind, the album delivers a fresh hippie theme and a worldly vibe with eclectic sounds inspired by the various cities Sinclar recorded in: Los Angeles, Paris, New York, and even Jamaica. No matter where you are, each track calls upon the flower children of the world to dance like no one’s watching, with a handful of care-free songs featuring contributions from masters of their own genres including: dancehall king Shabba Ranks, the legendary hip hop group Sugarhill Gang, and well-respected house DJ Ron Carroll. Sinclar's choice of unlikely collaborations solidifies his creative taste for risk taking and mixing styles to create something new and exciting.

Exciting has never been an issue with Mr Sinclar. Taking his name sake from a famous classic porn star in France, right from the get-go, Sinclar was an international super star. With smash hits on imprint Yellow from as early as 1996 all the way to May's Born in 69, Bob has shown France and the rest of the world that he is the top house producer of this modern dance era. Whether he is headlining sold out clubs in Ibiza or producing hits with Sugar Hill Gang, Bob Sinclar is always at the top of his game.

2009 has been a notable year for Bob Sinclar. He was voted Best Dance Artist in Belgium at the notable TMF Awards 2009 and Born in 69 has already sold 300,000 albums in France and has obtained golden record status. Back with his first album release in 2 years, the most prolific DJ in house music, Sinclar shows no signs of stopping with the announcement of his 'Born in 69 World Tour'.

It’s a new decade and a new year filled with hope, optimism and expectation of good things to come. Last year was an amazing year for us at Cielo, and 2010 promises to be even better as each month we give you a plethora of international star DJs, some of the world’s finest up and coming artists, and a handful of residents and parties unmatched. This is Cielo. This is dance music at its very best. Welcome to 2010.

If you survived the mayhem, madness and musical mêlée of our New Year’s Eve extravaganza with Willie Graff and Alex From Tokyo, we invite you to continue the party as Cielo opens its doors on Friday January 1st for the first Turntables on the Hudson of the new decade. Guest DJs on the night overseeing the diverse, edifyingly rich, and soul satisfying musical selection are the jet setting Wiseacre, Sabo from the Turntable Lab store in NY, and founding member and percussionist extraordinaire, Nappy G.

Let me take you on a trip… It’s March 1998, Miami, the Winter Music Conference and Danny Tenaglia is on the decks at Grove Jet rinsing a new tune by Cevin Fisher called ‘The Freaks Come Out’. Some say he played the record three times; some five. Others swear Danny never took the disc off the turntable, mixing ‘Freaks’ over, under, and throughout every other record in his set. By the end of the party, everybody was a freakin’ mess! The buzz spread fast and a classic was born. Fast forward to Thursday 7th and Dance.Here.Now write the latest chapter in Cevin’s illustrious career that’s given us such memorable clubbing anthems as ‘The Way We Used To’, ‘Women Beat Their Men’ and ‘You Got Me Burning Up’. If deep, dark, relentless grooves, soaring diva-esque vocals or twisted beats make you running for the dance floor, Cevin Fisher is your man.

Adult Section returns on Friday 8th with Darshan Jesrani and Dennis Kane, along with guest Gerry Rooney, from Black Records, supplying the soundtrack. Dennis Kane, aka Citizen Kane, runs the Disques Sinthomme and Ghost town labels and is widely regarded as a seminal figure within the scene, and one seriously bad crate digger and record collector. Brooklyn’s Darshan Jesrani - along with Morgan Geist – is behind the uber cool and forward thinking Metro Area. The innovative house and techno act return home after recent sell out dates in Rome and Athens embodying Detroit’s cold futurism, Chicago’s abstract track-modes, and the warmth of New York and New Jersey’s deep house, as heard to devastating effect on their recent ‘Fabric 43’ compilation.

Need Therapy? We have the cure, as the self-named night returns on January 9th for a special extended session with guests Jojo Flores, Halo Varga and Ed Dunn. In reverse order, Dunn’s played from Chicago to Bordeaux blending tracks that inspire people to move. As a partner of the international deep house crew, 3 Degrees Global, the NYC native’s played alongside some of the most influential house DJs of our time, while as half of the production team dunnEASY, he combines with Tortured Soul’s Ethan White to create a fresh and funky new take on the deep-house vibe. Halo has been involved with dance music since he got his first job at Chicago’s Hip House Records at the age of 9. Naturally progressing into the world of the DJ at age 12, Halo was soon a Chicago favorite even though he wasn’t old enough to get into the clubs! Best known for his work with Hipp-e, the two established the H-Foundation educating and entertaining clubbers at such pivotal clubs as Fabric, Zouk and Twilo in clubbing hot spots as far-flung as Buenos Aires, Singapore, Tel-Aviv, Montreal, Croatia, and most recently South Africa. Halo’s house is for the soul and spirit, not the cheap and commercial. “I’ve been DJing for 19 years,” he says. “And I love what I do.” The same can be said for longtime friend Jojo Flores. “Playing music and making people dance is all I ever wanted to do,” says the man who’s come a long way from his humble Montreal roots. A tireless Ambassador of soulful dance music he now holds residencies at a handful of famed clubs worldwide. Together the trio promises to take you on a magical house trip and all without the aid of a hallucinogenic!

There’s another essential night of house planned on Thursday 14th as Dance.Here.Now welcomes Honey Dijon, Tedd Patterson and Quentin Harris. Tedd, our Vibal resident, is widely regarded as a DJ’s DJ with admirers as varied as Tom Stephan, Frankie Knuckles and Larry Tee. “Back in the day Tedd showed us all how to play a bit of everything and make it work together in one night, just as Larry Levan used to play ALL dance music, not just the deep soulful stuff,” says Tee, the electroclash mastermind. “It’s his embrace of mixing electronic elements into the deep-house sound that has really made him a true innovator.” Similarly Quentin Harris has never been a follower: “I love experimenting with music and I’ll try anything to see if it works,” says the producer from Detroit who’s widely recognized as one of the leaders in the field of deep-house. It’s even been said that his work re-vitalized what had become a saturated and tired genre. To keep the testosterone levels in check, the boys are joined in the DJ box by Honey Dijon, the New York-based, Chicago-bred house DJ unofficially crowned Derrick Carter’s favorite DJ.

Few DJs that have graced the decks at Cielo have been honored by the Queen of England, but Giant Step welcomes musical royalty on Sunday 17th as Rich Medina makes a long overdue return to downtown’s ultra chic meat packing district, aided and abetted by the equally esteemed DJ Spinna. New York raised DJ Spinna is also a master at combining dance music with hip-hop, funk, and soul, remixing a plethora of major artists along the way, including De La Soul, Mary J. Blige and Stevie Wonder. To sample the man’s eclectic selection his new BBE compilation, ‘The Boogie Back - Post Disco Club Jams’, is just about essential as the word can get.

In the last twelve months Bart B More has remixed everyone from French funksters Alan Braxe & Fred Falke to indie darlings the Editors, with even Tiesto, Kraak & Smaak and the Crookers in between. Defying pigeonholing the Dutchman’s love for beat-driven, looped techno music with big room house and electro has seen him create a refreshing new crossover sound that many have followed. As a DJ he’s rocked dancefloors from Miami to Middlesborough, Paris to Prague and Sydney to Amsterdam, winning the crowd with his energized sets. Bart arrives at Cielo on Thursday 21st headlining Dance.Here.Now, the first of a nine-dates North American tour. Treasure Fingers, the Fools Gold recordings artist, best known for the mammoth future disco hit, ‘Cross The Dancefloor’, and remixing the likes of Little Boots, Wale & Lady Gaga, Chromeo and Miike Snow, joins him in the booth. Genres will collide. Dancefloors will rock. Fun will be had.

On Friday 22nd we mark Cielo’s 7th Anniversary with a very special night in the company of residents Nicolas Matar and Willie Graff, with what promises to be an amazing live set from the Dubtribe Sound System. From 1990 to 2005, husband and wife Sunshine and Moonbeam Jones, gathered friends and family together and traversed the planet performing house music live for millions of people. They arrived at a time when the world was in turmoil, the rave was a new idea that empowered people to gather and dance. Few followed the example set by Dubtribe, but many people were inspired to find their own road. Dubtribe Sound System performed their final live concert at Cielo, on December 1st 2005 - the perfect ending from the finest purveyor of soulful house… and now for a special “one night only” they’re reforming to celebrate Cielo’s magnificent seven with a live set of beautifully delivered soul-drenched songs, with spiritual intonations harking back to the halcyon days of house.

Dance.Here.Now host a night in the capable hands of house don Victor Calderone on Thursday 28th. His remixing résumé is extensive, including hits for Beyoncé, Madonna, Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp, while his own productions have faired just as well twice hitting the apex of the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart. His sets have been described as “deep driving grooves, brisk tribal percussion, sexually charged basslines and provocative vocals.” In other words it’s a tribal house fan’s dream: hot, steamy, sexy and created with the sole purpose of making you dance.

We round off our preview of the top night in January Friday 29th with the Made Event welcoming one of the leading lights in the UK prog-scene, Nick Warren. “We’re like typical Bristol boys, same as Massive Attack and Portishead, we take about four or five years to do anything,” says Nick, by way of explanation for the relative late arrival of ‘We Love Machine’, the latest Way Out West album. “But then, I think it’s our strongest album, and it’s got the best response.” Embracing the Radiohead model they let fans stream the album in its entirety from their website, before offering it for sale. Commercial suicide? Not as it turns out. “It’s gone so, so well,” buzzes Nick. “The response has been massive for it. There’s the panic in the industry that we have to stop the illegal downloading of music, and frankly, I don’t think it’s going to happen, so we might as well embrace it, and use it as part of the promotion tool,” says the man who’s the epitome of cosmopolitan and a disciple of incessant tech-house and burbling progressive beats.

Ask Nick Warren his best gig of 2009 and the answer’s simple (bear in mind he never played at Cielo last year!) “Some of the best gigs for me have been in Mexico. I did a Mexican tour and it was completely off the hook. Like the old days in Britain, where you’d have 2,000 people going nuts for the entire night.” And as a neat segue if you want to escape the winter doldrums, we’d recommend heading south towards the Mayan sun for beats and beach fun at the 3rd annual BPM Festival, taking place in the spectacular resort town of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. 10 days of over 30 parties brimming with first class international DJs, miles of sun-baked white sand beaches, and a beach town full of partygoers revving up for the winter holiday. Cielo are also hosting a very special event on January 7th at La Santanera with Nicolas Matar, Behrouz, Marques Wyatt and Jojo Flores headlining. For more information on the BPM Festival, visit www.thebpmfestival.com

Finally, as if we haven’t given you the perfect remedy for winter blues, and a dozen reasons to workout on the dancefloor and burn the calories, may we also remind you that Cielo has not one but two award winning nights every week. Louie Vega and Kevin Hedge are your hosts of Roots, a night of sensuously soulful house and Latin-infused rhythms every Wednesday. The Masters At Work and Blaze creators have been stalwarts of the clubbing scene in New York, and certainly know how to make a party come to life. While Monday’s and Deep Space lives up to its name with a truly enveloping journey into future dub, spacey vibes and abstract grooves featuring Francois K live on the mixing board for his unique blend of electronica.
