How do you guys handle the driving situations with friends?

Back then, we'd usually take turns driving on the night out. But what about friends who got busted for dui's? Some time ago, had a friend who was busted for dui. Since then, his dui was like a "don't have to drive because i got a dui" card. I had his back and drove to and from events. Now I have a second friend who got busted for dui and he's now using the "don't have to drive due to dui" card.

I have my friends' backs, however, now I feel this isn't fair. You all know how it is.. when you're not the one driving, you have no worries/concerns about how faced you get. You're not at risk for the dui (or even worse an accident) cuz you're not behind the wheel. Thus, you can let loose that much more and be carefree.

I feel the solution to even things out would be to use my friend's care as opposed to mine. You see, if I drive, I feel like a taxicab service: I'm using my own vehicle, my own gas, friends could relax and be totally carefree while I can't, etc. See where I'm getting at?

I'm just curious what this is like with other people's circle of friends. How do you handle the driving situations?

(needless to say, this is the best site to post such a question)

That sounds ty. It always sucks being DD but my friends don't have DUIs so we would just trade off when necessary. I'd always try hard to avoid having to drive though, either by partying locally or having enough people so splitting a cab home wouldn't be prohibitively expensive.

These days, my GF lives in the city so we just cab it back afterward for <15 bucks. It's great. :)

well said.

that or smoke weed so you don't care ;)

otherwise, you make your friends man-up other ways, ie. use their cars, pay for gas, for general admission, etc...

it would be only fair imo

I drive 99.999999% of the time.

It doesn't bug me at all, i get used to it. From the quick trips to Vegas or LA, to all the way to NYC. Driving doesn't faze me for some reason.

I am sober 90% of the time so its kind of a given. I don't mess with drugs so i am usually 100%. I do drink on a rare occasion, those are the times i don't end up driving. But those times aren't so often.

There are only a few things that get on my nerves. Me driving home DEAD tired and everyone passed the out. The cheap skate in the group that doesn't want to pitch in for gas enough. The wear and tear on my truck and cars. My friends arent there when i am replacing the tires lol

LMAO! That's just what I was about to say.

Whoever is most sober at the end of the night should drive, Buy a breathalyzer. If all three of you are too drunk to drive, take a cab, or wait it out. Ask them for some gas money. Speak up for yourself.

keep the rotation going, and when its your turn, then you have the ability to drive and stay sober. since they have DUI's they can spring for a hotel, and as the nice guy that you are, you will drive their car to the location. so you still end up driving(not your own car every time) and u still have the option to consume. If you choose to stay sober, then you pocket the money set aside for the hotel lol :toocool:
