KING SUNSHINE (Soul Motion, Mixed Signals, Sound Signature)
From the concert stages of the country’s top festivals to deep inside underground dance clubs, King Sunshine has rocked them all. The uncompromising 9 piece collective has amassed a resume that is rivaled by few – from the stages of the Montreal Jazz Festival to the sweaty dancefloors of the hottest nightclubs of Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa ,Halifax and abroad.
Using the classic big band set up of keyboards/synths, heart pounding drums and percussion, deep bass, slick guitar, hefty horns and beautiful female vocals, what sets King Sunshine apart is their unconventional mix of all of the dance floor idioms. Fusing elements of disco, inflections of funk, poly-rhythms of Latin music and the heart of soul music - this electric live act is redefining the concert going experience with their high energy performances and skilled musicianship.
Performances at Canada’s largest music festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2005, 2006 and 2009, Ottawa Blues Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival, Toronto/ Montreal Fashion and Design Festival and Nova Scotia’s Evolve Festival plus countless club engagements has brought King Sunshine nationwide recognition. Sharing stages with some of the finest DJs, including Theo Parrish, DJ Sneak, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Ron Trent and Little Louis Vega and bands Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (NYC), Blue King Brown (Melbourne, Australia),Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings (NYC) and Bettye LaVette ("The Great Lady of Soul" has helped put them in a league of their own.
