supperclub, temple, vessel, slide, harlot will bring in some good dj's from time to time.
Kelly's mission rock does a day/night party every 2nd sunday of the month from june-november or so, these are very fun!
Rich maintains the SF calendar. He lists EVERYTHING, so you always know whats going on.:gsmile: |

Now all i got to to do is find out which club plays the type of music i like , Im really looking forward to find a lot of underground events as well.
Just wondering what type of edm sub genere in your opinion predominates in SF?
Tonight i will go out and tomorrow i'll give a review of what I found . |

When you experience the scene in SF, I don't think you are ever going to want to leave. I'll just leave it at that.
Along with the clubs, you have to learn about the various promoters too. |

| house is the dominant scene here. i would explore every avenue from the mega club to the lounge to the underground party to get a feel for which parties you like. you should have no trouble finding your niche here based on your musical tastes. within your first week of going out, you'll find a free mini magazine at the club called ingen that is centered on the local house and techno scene with lots of good material inside including upcoming parties. of course there's nothing in there you won't find on my calendar, but it's a good look into our scene anyway. by the time you've experienced lovefest/lovevolution, you'll have a fairly good idea about the edm in sf. |

| theres a venue/party for just about everything on a weekly basis but idm/neotrance. its more scarce and almost quarterly when a prime headliner comes out like zomby (jan), four tet (march), moderat (may), ricardo tobar (oct) and four tet + nathan fake (feb 2010)... :( |

I really glad to hear that ... i love house specially deep tech house though i'm willing to explore every single venue and sub genre , just to get a gilmpse how the EDM scene is in SF.... even trance :D
R!ch thank you again for the calendar it's very helpful specially for some of us that are new to Sf . I already had a chance to use it last saturday , which i will give a review on the event that went on at Ruby Skye. I saw DOc Martin on your calendar and I've been advised that he is pretty sick so i will check him out at temple club this next weekend ;)
will defo check on lovefest / lovevolution cheers . :p |

So I went last week to Ruby skye and found pretty much what i was expecting for ... i remember being there 3 years ago , went to see dave seaman when I was still a prog. house whore. The only thing i liked about the place was the sound system and maybe the little pool table lounge they had upstairs , thats about it.
3 years later I find the place exactly the same except they took the pool table :( and made it into a claustrophobic very bad decorated loungy room.
Main room's soundsystem still good though ... but man really , do we really need male gogo dancers?? thats is disturbing i felt embarrassed and wanted to gtfo when the music got cheezy which it did at various points.:o
As far as the dj's go I came in and "charles feelgood" a dj i had never seen or heard before was playing, he was playing the first 30 min. samples of old tracks like "robyn - show me love " and " mk- Burning " and " nightcrawlers - push the feeling on " till then it was alright and then he went on to play some ugly ass electro which made my ears bleed for 2 hours .
next dj manny ward was better than the last guy played some tribal tracks which were good but then he also played a lot of over played tracks that have ing bored the hell out of me over the past months like Grindhouse ( dubifre terror mix ) the sound quality of most of them tracks didnt sound right throughout his set.
Crowd ...NO!
overall i gave this night 2.5 out of 5 and thats just because the dj upstairs helped me id a track I've been looking for ages . thats all ;) |
