vst ableton help needed??

I am currently writing my first full song with ableton.. i have to say that it a very creative program but when it comes to vst automation, i am having problems. I am currently using albino 3 and simply just want to automate the attack / release on my motifs to fit in the mix when the lead is playin. i used cubase for the last 5years and if a parameter was not shown all you had to do was press record.. do the automation.. then click show all automation and it would show up.
i have tryied to do the same in ableton but it simply records over what i have done and further more the automation does not show up...any advice would be very very helpful

Its due to the 128 parameter limit in versions prior to live 8.
I think if you have the "OVR" button clicked at the top of the page this will overwrite your automation.... |

im struggling with automation i cant figure out how to draw a single automation dot
You know click on two points to draw a line of filter cutoff automation etc?
I have to draw a freehand line then delete all the wiggly bits. |

When recording automation un-arm the channel (little red dot bottom of your channel strip) then try recording. Latest version of Live all you have to do is click on say the filter cut of knob in your VST & it should show up in the automation menu in Live. |
