Over at discogs there was a thread posted about making a track with your speakers off, not being able to hear the samples you are using. I think the first result posted below is rather amusing and it'd be cool if people on TA gave this a crack too.

Howdy y'all. The idea hit me earlier to construct a track consisting entirely of audio I have never heard before and with no hints as to it's content other than the waveform as represented in the sequencing software I used.

So! I had a friend pick out 15 different wavs and send them over while I constructed this track with my speakers off.

I challenge y'all to make more. Requires at least one other person to send you audio files or something like that.

Someone has been nice enough to provide some samples here:

15 randomly chosen, randomly named wav files. No peeking. ;)

Fixed.

This could be quite hilarious. Do we have to use EQ?

Man I can see mine being absolutely atrocious.

LOL.

I might try this. I assume we can use effects, too?

Do whatever you like, as long as it's with your speakers off.

Wow this looks like a lot of fun, for sure going to try this out. I'll post the results tonight when i start / finish.

Okay, I am going to try this. Those random samples plus effects in Live, no monitoring whatsoever. I will make it about two minutes long I guess. Should have it posted up in the next couple hours. :-)

I was disappointed in that some of it (especially at the beginning) actually sounded decent rather than absurd, although it gets a bit goofy in parts. Still a fun exercise, though.

:p

It seems to have a pretty cool film noir vibe to it. I could hear it being played in an action scene of a retro 50s film. Of course, it might work for a porn film as well. :p

I'm going to try some simpler variations on this experiment later on.
