joel. | i think he's talking about how to get some good sounds via unison and i think he means if you record things at different time you can get a fat and more intersting sound out of ya vst's and so on.
im sure the next time he's online he will explane things in more detal.:p |

Yeah, what Owien said. He's basically just explaining how to create unison by using detuned wav's, rather than your synth's unison control, which can eat up CPU, etc.
It's very much like the concept behind multi-tracking a vocal line, in which the natural variations in pitch/timing creates a big, full natural chorus effect. |

Thanks dude! Very simple concept, but can be very useful.
I'm gonna try this out with each layer on a separate channel like you were suggesting. Then I'll see what kind of funky FX chains and automations I can come up with. :toocool:
Definitely try to keep these coming! |

I been doing that when I make commericals but I never realized I was creating unision until now. lol I keep learning new terms every day! lol |

I do some commercial work too Woody.
We had to layer some vocals for an international commercial for an italian car manufacturer.
The singer, was so damn tight on her vocals, I swear to god when we tried to double them up as you got was a phase effect - no chorus because there was virtually no pitch deviation between any of her takes! Even on the vibrato on her voice was identical and matched the placement.
We actually had to ask her to mess it up a bit to get a noticeable chorus.
Anyway, nice tips Joel, and I wouldn't worry, just keep em coming. The production forum is very different place and that bull won't happen here. ;)
The interesting thing about this tut is that in the 70's, most analogue synths were monophonic and this is what they had to do in lieu of chorus fx/voices, but this just shows how modern recording techniques have progressed and added to the old.
nice :) |
