so wait, let me see if i understand...
when kaskade played at spin it wasnt a douchie crowd?
when farina plays at spin its not a douchie crowd?
when(if) cl plays/played at spin its not a douchie crowd?

but when you put them all together at the sheraton its a douchie crowd?

guess next time rabbit in the moon or markus play at ivy or on broadway you will be pumping up those events even though you are promoting at another venue right? since you did pump the artists up in your post above.

I'm not gonna lie, i felt like there was a douchie crowd at these events when they were at spin. i still went, but not because of the crowd, but to see the artist. i mean spin is the most relax venue in San Diego with some of the greatest musical performers in EDM coming through. But as the Eventvibe crowd was coming through in their masses, they brought their "douchie crowd", typical "downtown", "scenster" mentality.

Before eventvibe got a contract at spin, that crowd wasn't there. It was your typical underground crowd and kids who love the music bring there friends to experience it in a proper way. People didn't go to be scene, but to enjoy the music. Spin was the place you could go to see the Big Trance and House DJs from around the world and the downtown crowd wasn't gonna be therein masses. then Eventvibe cam in on contract and we saw the crowd come through for the brief time they threw consistant events there. At which time many of the typicals kinda stop coming often because of the new crowd. and now since EV is gone back downtown so has there crowd and spin is moving back to the way it use to be.

SO...No it is not a "douchie scene crowd" because of the venue specifically nor because of the specific DJ playing but because of the promotion group that was putting it together and the type of crowd and demographic that they typically draw. At the times all these people and DJs have come through Spin this year, the events were mainly through Eventvibe's promotional group. If Eventvibe had still been at On Broadway on Friday nights, through the year, All these events would have been held at On Broadway and most of the people who were at these events would have been at the Eventvibe event downtown.

If they are a great artist i am into, yes, i will pump them because i feel that the artist needs to be recognized by our community as a whole (whether it's a douchie scene kid, newbie jus outta the frat and recently discovered EDM,the raver, the club kid or the vetran 50 yr old who is looking for a good night of EDM) and i usually will in some degree big up who ever gets the bid for that event.

I have seen them play at other venues(i.e. markus at 4th n B with Armin) in the downtown area and have gone to them despite the type of crowd that i knew would draw because of the promoter, because i wanted to support the artist.

I mean Big Ups to eventvibe for doing what they do and always being consistant and drawing a big crowd!!!

But the numbers aren't always as important as we saw from above, but the type of people each demographic wants to party with, can be the deciding factor.

My whole point in all of this is that for $100 you are getting more bang for your buck!!! It is rare to get a live set from Rabit in the Moon in san Diego, Nor any other of these headliners on the rgular. And the chances that any of our typical promoters (I.E. EVENTVIBE, 4theDJ, Voyuer, and even Giant to a degree) would bring out:

1. Rabit in the moon LIVE
2. CHARLIE MAY LIVE
3. SOHA
4. MARCUS SCHOSSOW
5. ANDY DUGIUID

for a random headline spot on a weekly in san diego are few and far between. The closest these guys usually get to being here might be a massive in LA or Riverside!!!! Now if any of these crews are down to take the risk and bring these new and fresh acts who are killing it around the world i say big up to you for bringing out new blood!!!

This is a MASSIVE, FRESH Line up in an intimate setting, without e puddles or formerly Frat house scene kids that still act like they are in the frat. in college!!!

As oppose to if you do go to the Eventvibe new years at Sheraton. Their typical crowd that shows up will normally be there on top of the same DJs that Eventvibe brings out multiple time in a year for their main headline spots on the weekly. If Eventvibe pulled a BIgger not so out of the ordinary set of headliners I'd think about going despite the crowd.

i guess i am the douche scene kid because i have observed too much over the past few years!!! LOL

watch out for me i might be at a party near you!!!

great points. i saw markus 2 weeks ago at circus, he rocked it.
$100 for open bar is a great deal for those who run tabs up that high!

I am planning on remembering my night, no need to drink til im sick. guess i will be partying with those who can't afford/refuse to spend $100 on nye. sheraton tickets were $40 with 2 drink tickets when i found out about the event and posted it on TA. early bird gets the worm.

sweet man!!! its more like my $100 covers 3 times the number of world renown headlining DJs which should make the ticket for admission to get in at least $60 for early bird. $80 presale and $100 day of. and typically events to this capacity charge $8-$15 a drink.

So basically your forty dollars and 2 drink tickets with 1/3rd the number of high class trance DJs is about the same value as mine devided by 3. when you get you ticket for $40 + 2 free drinks and then by the 2-3 more beers or mixed drinks later in the evening. along with having an event that last nearly half as long.

then you can add to that for 50 more dollars you can join us new years day for another 12 hours of party and world class DJs plus:

:eyes: :eyes:

SO ALCOHOL ASIDE!!! WE ARE PAYING BASICALLY $10 PER DJ!!!

YOU GET 4 HEADLINER DJs FOR $40 AND TWO DRINKS FREE for 8 hours.

WE GET WITHOUT VIP 10 HEADLINER DJS FOR $100 AND AT LEAST 2 FREE DRINKS OR MORE, IF ONE CHOOSES TO DRINK MORE, PLUS 5 MORE HEADLINE DJS/PERFORMERS FOR FREE for 12 hours

Clearly your extra $60 goes further economically just by the line up alone (has more pull for me as a Trance Listener). Even the most responsible partier is getting more bang for his buck,be sober at this Party!!!

ONe for the record Books for sho!!! BIG UPS GA and all involved!!!!

First of all, if you don't have anything productive to say, Get off this forum and this thread. I don't slander other events threads, nor do I bitch about events I don't like in threads before the event has EVER even happened.

Second, and more important bigperf, who the hell do you think you are? You don't know me, nor do you go to the events I promote and help organize, or say hi. Frankly, your attitude it what ruins the local scene through establishing elitism, and keeps it from growing, which adds to the fact I don't appreciate your attempt to flame me or this event. If you can't afford a proper ticket at any time, that's your issue. You know what though, even when I was unemployed, I found a way to go to the events I loved and never had an issue getting in while showing my support.

Since you brought up this event, here's food for thought for those who don't get this event:

The price of a ticket INCLUDES:
SIX STAGES at a HOTEL in San Diego. 3 indoor and 3 outdoor near one of the coolest beaches here. The stages feature a talented group of DJs for all flavors. I will get to this more in a moment.

A HOSTED Bar - where all enjoy the drinks they choose throughout the night, even for General Admission ticket holders. It's up to you to decide how much you drink that night, but if you consider the drink prices on New Year Eve at any venue in the area, you know the price will be elevated for the night. It's what businesses do, and its an accepted part of the night life.

You also help get proceeds to charity, specifically: Hunger At Home and Earthdance, two organizations that are helping people worldwide.

Lastly, by coming to Evolve you are stating that the established list of only Top 100-ish DJs are not the only ones worth seeing. You are showing support for the growth of the San Diego club experience. You are making a statement that the same names are hitting San Diego too much, and not going to be able to sustain the crowds anymore.

DJs on the rise are appearing at Evolve because its thrown not by some business-first minded organization, but by DJs and promoters who love the music and are doing their research on the talent on the brink.

Catch these tidbits:
Rabbit In The Moon - Behind numerous 90's era dance tracks that were popular before the trance genre broke into the norm. They are talented individuals who have with stood the sounds for over a decade. Check their release "Decade" for a collection of their big tracks.

Charlie May - A man knwon for his unique architecture who has been producing since the early days of acid house. He now makes a name on Renaissance, a UK label operated by the UK's longest running club. The Renaissance label also operates Sasha's prolific emFire label. Charlie's also one half of the duo known as Spooky, who have helped engineer many of Sasha's biggest tracks.

Soha - Of fame when working with his good friend Adam K (currently touring in Europe), Soha's made numerous tracks and remixes that have caught the attention of artist's as big as Tiesto, BT, Kaskade, Junkie XL, and oh yea, U-friggin-2. The remix that Adam K & Soha did of U2's Magnificent shows the talent the duo is putting into their music. If you don't believe they did, check here.

Andy Duguid - A man known for his two big tracks: Wasted & Don't Belong, but also big trancers like Hypocrisy & Falling which features Julie Thompson on vocals. Andy released his first artist album on Black Hole Recordings, a sub-label in Tiesto's label group, which feautres collaborations with artist like Mr. Sam and Solarstone.

Thomas Sagstad - Best known for his recent work with Marcus Schössow, but has numerous releases that have gotten support by DJs like Sander Klienenberg, Bobina, and Markus Schulz off of labels like Oxygen Recordings (Spinnin' Records sub-label in the Netherlands) and Black Hole (as previously mentioned a part of Tiesto's label organization).

Thomas Penton - a producer/dj since 1999 Thomas founded his own label in 2006 called Electric Candy Records and has delivered tracks for labels like In Charge (Marco V's label) and Perfecto Black (a label family which gained famed under Paul Oakenfold's tenure in the 90's) as well as doing remixes for releases on euphonic, which is Kyau & Albert's label.

Michael Badal - a true pioneer in the sounds of progressive house and trance in Southern California. Micahel's got releases under some of the biggest label organization in the industry including Anjunabeats (Above & Beyond's organization), euphonic (again Kyau & Albert's label), Armada Music (the crowned jewel of Armin's work, the organization that he helped start), Ava Recordings (Andy Moor's brainchild), and High Contrast Recordings (the label that replaced ID&T's niche in the market).

I could keep going, but I'll stop there with that part.

Here's what you get at other events in San Diego:
- Hard Rock NYE - $100; 4 stages with the only notable being Dave Dresden. No drink specials.

- NYE @ SE Hotel - Gene Ferris of Chicago; 3 "rooms"; no drink specials; $40.00 Pre-sale tickets

- NYE @ Thin/Onyx - No notables; 3 "rooms"; $30.00 Pre-sale Tickets

- NYE @ 4th & B - Yves LaRock & Zoo Brazil; 1 stage, maybe 2 if they choose to use the upstairs area as one; $5 U-Call-Its; $50.00 tickets

- NYE @ Envy - No notables; Champagne Toast Complimentary; $95.00 Tickets

- NYE @ The Marriot - Scooter & Lavelle; No drink specials for GA; $70.00 tickets for GA;

and lastly as bigpref liked to thread steal because he hasn't gotten the class to rise above that:

- NYE @ The Sheraton: Eventvibe and SEM music showcase here that also features Kaskade, Christopher Lawrence, Mark Farina, & Joachim Garraud. Kaskade has been to San Diego twice in the past year, CL once, Mark Farina over 6 times with this event, and the only stretch of the imagination is JG, whom is talented in his own right, but isn't the flavor I really cater too. No Drink specials, nor any complimentary items for GA ticket holders. As bigperf claims, there WERE $40 early bird tickets, those were early bird specials that have long since past (before our event was organized with any solidity). Tickets are now $70 for GA or $150 for VIP. It's also noted that this event was moved, possibly in response to the competitive nature of other events in San Diego.

For fun, lets throw in Together As One, LA's Massive New Year's party - 3 stages - the main features John Digweed, David Guetta, Markus Schulz and Marcus Schössow, plus a D&B stage with international artists (though probably not a draw on this forum). There are no drink specials, and tickets are $80. Add in parking for at least $20. Its now $100. The two Markus' are a draw, but other than Marcus Schössow, the other artists have already been playing in Southern California numerous times this year.

-----------------------------------

I don't know about anyone else, but my decision is easy because I want to hear new music by new DJs that are talented to hear in San Diego. I'm not just a promoter like bigpref attempted to label me as, I'm a fan of dance music and have gone and promoted events for the artist's sake, not a venue's or a promoter's. I BOUGHT my ticket to the event I've helped cultivate and organize, and that's because I support the artists coming here.

As for the crowd, it will be a simple one to explain: San Diegan's who don't want the hassle of downtown, love the music and the festivities, and want to feel like they matter at an event. Not the "so-called douchy people" bigperf wants you all to believe as he probably enjoys his big puff of air to try and make a statement. No, Evolve will have an amazing crowd of people who want to experience something amazing for New Years that doesn't involve the stereo-typical party environment.

Oh and pref, just so you know... I also promote nights for Voyeur and On Broadway and 4th & B when I feel the artist merits it and hasn't been in San Diego numerous times. I also have friends like Bobby R, Scott R, Chase C, Mike, and Tim in Eventvibe, Tomas and Chris at Spin, Don Satino in SEM, and some others spread throughout town (say Sharky of 'smü[th] Music) and around the world that include people like Rich Mowatt (Solarstone) and Luke van Scheppingen (aka Laidback Luke). You know why they are my friends? It's really simple; I show up and support them, their artistry, and their future, and have a vested interest in the person they are and what they are trying to do.

Next time, do your research. I'm also supporting the event because I'm friends with Soha, Gabe Lukosz, Zach Zamarripa, and a whole bunch more on that flyer, and I'm supporting what they do. GET IT YET: I SUPPORT instead of going into event threads that haven't happened and trying to turn people away from them. I allow the person to make up their own mind about a night. If a night is ty, I'll be honest about it, but I never discount a night or organization before it happens unless its warranted in some form. You don't like us or what we do, fine, man up and shut up because you're just bringing the scene down to a stagnant, boring, and predictable affair.

Note: It is unfortunate but Marcus Schössow will no longer be able to make it to the event. He was planned to play after Together As One, but due to stipulations in his contract, he will no longer be able to come to our event. In the works, is a new artist to fill the void, and one that wont disappoint.

thanks Darthseph!!!

very eloquent and well said!!!

Easy fellas! haha.

First off thanks for backing up this event and its fairly obvious many people have their own oppinions and taste when it comes to EDM. I think the Eventvibe party will be great if thats what you are looking for. I think the key to our party is that the talent is very unique and the cost is amazing when you look at what you get. Here would be the my main points for our party:

1. You get a lot of amazing talent that has never played before in San Diego. This is a big deal to me an many others as its always great to see Kaskade but you know he will be back soon.
2. Evolve NYE at the Hilton has open bar. When you look at many of the other parties (thanks darthseph) you dont get open bar and have less talent and almost the same price. Eventvibes party is almost at $100 and it will get even higher and other partys have local DJ's or not as big of names and their costs are going up to. Evolve's party is staying at $100.
3. Evolve is at an amazing hotel and offering amazing hotel deals. You can get two nights at an amazing hotel and two VIP tickets for $420. That gets you into the party the whole time (including the day party) which is over 30 hours of talent and DJ's.
4. While getting wasted is obviously not everyones thing but if you go to any event downtown drinks will be around $10 to $15 each. If you get 3 drinks your already looking at more or the same price as this event.

So by no means am I bashing any other party around town and I hope all parties do great. But when you look at what you get at Evolve NYE at the Hilton Torrey Pines there is no other party with that amount of talent for that price, period.

so much for "stay classy" san diego. last response i had was pretty classy "great points..."

you don't need any more heat on this thread as im sure this event has sold out by now with such a great value and so many noteworthy dj's.

since the hilton event is such a great value and has so many noteworthy djs and thus therefore must have already sold out, people will have to go look at all the other events listed, for their NYE plan. if ivy can charge $95 and people will pay, then charge it! simple suppy and demand.

im not a promoter so i dont have to write paragraphs trying to make points to sell an event. and since this is such a great value with so many noteworthy dj's and has likely already sold out, why even keep pushing it?

it would be interesting to see where the unbiased SDTA's who arent promoting or involved in this event are going...Nero,Jsmooth,nctrnl etc.

Here... I wont be classy and be simple since your head can't wrap around it. In almost every thread I've started or my friends have started, you come in like you own the place and act like an ass. Since you can't see the error of your ways, I'd appreciate it if you left our threads with constructive comments or no comments at all. Classy people don't go into threads and try to bring down events... so much for class huh?
