| It is nothing original at all. He completely knocked off early seasons of Y3, Yohji Yamamoto for Adidas and tripled the price for knocking off items. In the fashion world, anyone seeing this would think it is a knock off. It is also similar to some styles for 45 RPM, a Japanese company with a few stores in NY. Check fall09 for Y3 and you'll see the similar concept, it has evolved since it started. It isn't my style except for two sneakers from last year that I got but respect the designer- http://www.adidas.com/campaigns/y-3....asp?country=us |

I read about this on the ism a looong time ago. Richie is trying to become a brand like Tiesto or something, but he's not succeeding with this bull.
TBH, I'd rather pay $1400 for a proper pair of Prada shoes than the hideous hi-tops, and Prada shoes are not even that much. |

i'm not sure it has to be original in order to make sales. as far as i'm concerned the brand is breaking even on its first year on the market which isn't bad at all. having said that, i don't think richie designed anything at all, hence the hiring of the designer (richly).
additionally, i've shown this line to a friend of mine that works for Armani and she said the styles aren't that bad, however, there are some items that could be either taken off completely or redesigned.
i truly believe richie hawtin has no genuine interest in dropping his dj'ing career to focus on fashion/clothing, i only think he used his connections to come out with a line...hell, if i had the connections i would too who gives a crap, well, apparently, a lot of people do. ;) |

It doesn't have to be original, you're right. I mean more like, they are marketing it as such an avant garde concept and really, it isn't. It's been done and done better. If you look at the first seasons of Y3, there are exact rip offs of the jacket, the woman's long skirt with hoodie, and other things that look completely ripped off. If this were a real design house, they would be ripped to shreds. Look at how Johnny on The Fashion Show was torn apart after he knocked off Maggie Gyllenhaal's leopard Lanvin dress, he destroyed his career and he was a contender to win. There is paying an homage and there is adapting to a style but Richie Hawtin's line knocked off a real designer, then had the chutzpah to charge more! Ha! Also the cube was mentioned, total Matrix ripoff. |

Umm, I'm pretty sure that's the point of marketing. Even the JC Pennys commercials claim to have this seasons hottest fashions. LOL |

Right but within the fashion industry, it is a bit different. Designers don't claim something that isn't theirs. They don't say I am the first evar to do minimal!1!!1111!!! |
