looking for hardware with xone like filters to add to my setup....

| hey guys i have a rane ttm57sl mixer but the effects suck... i was wondering if you guys could recommend me some hardware to add to my setup. the main thing i am looking for is filters, but delays and flangers and stuff are cool too. how do the filters work on the pioneer efx units? are they manual, or do u push a button and it automatically filters over x number of beats? i dunno mixing trance with filters is the best and i'm kicking myself for not buying a mixer with filters :/ |

| Korg Kaoss Pad. Have heard mixed reviews about the KP3, but the KP2 is a solid unit with plenty of toys (solid filters, reverb and delay + vocoder!). Used and in good shape they sell for $150-$200 on eBay. |

If you want Xone-like filters, get Xone filters ;)
Xone VF-1... basically the analogue filter from a Xone 62 in rack-mount form, with a few extra knobs.
Rack-mount might not be ideal for you though, I wish they did a portable version! |

And in answer to your question about Pioneer EFXs, they've got a filter on the 'beat effects side' which is a low-pass filter on an LFO, like on the DJM 600, and they've got a 'wah' effect on the 'jog effects side' which is basically a high pass filter if you turn the jog clockwise and low pass if you turn it anticlockwise.
The wah effect can be pretty reasonable, but as it's a relative jog, it's not so easy to return to centre smoothly - it's not quite the same as just cranking the frequency knob on a Xone mixer. The EFX1000 has got a resonance control for the wah effect as well, which is pretty useful to keep control of your filter fun.
I always wanted to get an Electrix Filter Queen:

but they went out of production quite a long time ago and can be hard to get hold of. |

those electrix filters look great! Could I manipulate 2 diff channels from my mixer independently or would I need to buy two of them one to control each channel?

| Lol I didn't even know Allen and heath made an external filter. The price is kind of high is it worth it? How do the vf filters compare the the ones on a 92? I never used the filters on a 62... |

I think it's got a few more bells and whistles attached like a the Overdrive function. But one of the lads will be able to make a better comparison to the unit that I can.
Only problem I see here is that A) is rack mounted, and b) this is only one filter. The 92 as we know as two of them so you can apply a nice filter over two channels which is sometimes very handy.
Also, this unit will only satisfy your filter requirements. If you want any other effects (delays and flangers) aren't included. I know they weren't a requisite for you but still if you're paying 600 bucks for something... well up you to.
I have heard the unit is nice, though IMO, it's obviously for the studio or they'd have released a nice compact unit for the road.
