So... I'm wanting to get into martial arts. But, I'm 30 years old, a complete noob and I'm not entirely sure on where to start. Does anyone know of any good places downtown that offer muay thai? I'm preferably looking for places that people have been to and have actual knowledge of.. Places with beginner adult classes for noobs like me!
Thanks! |

| lol get ready for a brutal regiment if you go to a real Muay Thai place. They condition you by hitting your body with kicks, punches, knees, and sticks. You'll be sore for a while lol |

lol yeah but there's some martial arts that use chest protectors and helmets like Karate & Tae Kwon Do, there's some with no contact Kung Fu & Wushu. With Muay Thai it's full body contact :P Just a heads up ;) |

All places offer a free trial, so instead of relying on someone else's recommendation checks the aforementioned places out for yourself. As far as I know all places have beginner classes. At the very least you will be instructed separately (ie performing diff drills from the rest of the class). There's no obligation when you try out.
Also, get ready to get into amazing cardio shape, MT classes make you move! At beginner lvl you will be wearing protective gear; shins pads when sparring (get a cup/mouthguard as well ;))
As for the actual places, in the core I only know TBJJ, but I've only been to their BJJ classes. |

I did a lot for about 6 years in my 20s. Then I came back about 6 years ago, did MMA for 3 years with the 30+ crowd, and I loved it, except for the teabagging after choking out, but that's another story.
Warriors in Newmarket is where I went and still has the program. Carlos Newton used to come train every now and then, so it was awesome. Carlos trains at several places in the GTA now I heard.
When you start out, it was fun and exausting until you get back in shape. The grappling with the more experienced was ok, UNTIL you tried to get cocky and try to outmuscle the more experienced because THEN he's going to let you have it good. |

That's quite an over-generalization of Kung Fu. Theres over 400 styles of kung fu, many of which involve full contact and/or contact at critical points of the body. |
