Thinking of getting a new computer: thoughts? (pg. 3)

My work gave me a Macbook Pro for free and it is a total piece of crap; it doesn't even have home and end keys, which I find absolutely moronic. Needless to say, I installed Windows on it because OSX is a pile of horse. You'll find the same, if you actually need to use your computer for real work at any point in time.
Regardless, those new iMacs are a very good deal considering the quality of the monitor. You can also obviously connect a decent keyboard to them, unlike Macbooks (kinda detracts from the point of it being a laptop in the first place). If I was in the market for a new PC, I would get one of those iMacs, replace the crappy default keyboard and put Windows on it. |

| So I'm guessing in general you guys would give this option two thumbs up? Not sure there is anything else out at the moment that would fit within the same budget/performance, right? |

please stay out of PC vs MAC discussions, your opinions are useless. |
My opinions are very useful, since I actually use a PC AND a Mac. You're just a Mac user that can't handle knowing someone was given a top of the line Mac for free, and still doesn't like it. :gsmile:

or you can do as echo, build your own PC and get hell. |
Put your reading glasses on. I advised him to buy the iMac and replace the keyboard and OS, not build a PC. The hardware on these iMacs is quite good value.
Regardless, you evidently do not know enough about computers to be building your own. Of course you're going to "get hell", if you don't know what you're doing. Your lack of knowledge is not a good argument against PCs. ;) |

While I value your opinion, I would have to completely disagree. I have been a Windows user for +10 yrs and moved to a Apple MacBook Pro and completely love the Mac OSX. SL is built proof and far exceeds anything that MS has ever put out that I have used. Can I ask why you have such negative feelings towards OSX? It is fast, easy to use, never crashes. What more do you want out of it. After using a MacBook Pro, I have decided that I will be using OSX for the foreseeable future. Not sure why you are so hostile towards OSX? Now that we have drifted off course, time to get back on track. |

same position as you, used windows for my whole life, bought a 17in macbook pro this summer and have been absolutely loving it. I still use Win 7 on the desktop though but mostly for gaming. |

Yep. Don't see the big deal since one can use Boot-Camp or double/triple boot with OSX/Win 7/ Ubuntu if one really needs to. |
