Trance Generators The Interview Q&As

Main players in the hardtrance/style scene – Trance Generators run through the Q&A’s:

Artist: TRANCE GENERATORS (BEN DJ & RADIUM) Courtesy of Future Sound Music Group.

Where did it all start for you?
We started to listen and to play “dance” music many years ago, and in 1998 we had the chance to meet in a Swiss Club and to discover that we had so many common opinions about music, since that moment we decided to start to produce something together and in 1999 the Trance Generators were born.

Where did the name come from?
Our first love was “trance” music. That’s where we got the idea to use Trance Generators as our artist name. When we started this project this was the style we really wanted to play and produce. Year after year our style and our productions started to get harder and harder till when we totally moved from the hard trance to the harder styles. The hard dance at the moment, producing in studio but also performing, is the style that really gives us the pleasure! In our productions and in our sets we still love to put some melodic parts but mainly we love to feel the power of the kick and the bass!

Who would you say was putting on the best events at the moment? What’s the best event you’ve ever played?
We think it’s very hard to say or to judge this because many promoters and organizations are putting huge efforts in doing events, from the small club to the massive Festival they can all have something magic and massive. It’s all about the people we have in front. We can play good music but the dance floor reaction is the most important thing. For us a great event means to have a lot of movement and screams on the dance floor. This is what makes us come back and give another amazing set to people.

Which other countries have you played?
USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Holland.

What was the first event you ever played?
Talking about international Gigs first Club was the Country Club in UK in 2002 and first Event was X-Qlusive Italy in Holland in 2002.

What was your first record you bought?
BEN: my first record (and still my favorite one) was SUNBEAM – “Outside World”. – (nice :P)
RADIUM: my first record was a house record but at the moment I forgot the title.

Out of all the tunes you have, which one does the business every time?
Many tunes we produced got massive worldwide reactions but for sure the ones that gave to us best pleasure has been “Wildstyle Generation” because we sold 8.000 vinyl units (and it is still one the best sellers in the hard style scene) and also “Do You Wanna Balloon” because this was and still is a legendary club anthem. In every place we go and play this track people go really crazy.

And when all the partying is over, how do you like to relax?
After party is not so easy to rest because we often have flights for come back to our countries but when we have weekends off we like to watch movies or to play video games.

How is the scene in your eyes at the moment?
It’s messy, very messy. Because there are many party people who really knows how to party and to listen to music but also there’s a huge part of party people that they don’t know nothing about music and they just follow the trends and as true sheep they follow what big companies are doing and pushing, maybe they even don’t like this music but just because is sort of “cool” and “trendy” they go to these parties.

How big is your vinyl collection? What is your opinion on CDJ's? (the pros & cons)
Our Vinyl collection is very huge but we also moved to CDJ’s because in most of the clubs now the turntables are disappeared. Vinyl sound is more “warm” compared to the “cold” digital one but for sure the CD sound is more clean and perfect. The bad thing is that now because of this mp3 thing the sales are going down and vinyl market is simply over. Everybody is downloading from the net (legal and illegal sites) and so very soon there will be no point to press a vinyl because costs will be too expansive.

Who is/are your biggest musical influences in the world of music & why?
We listen to all kind of music because we personally think that ideas and inspiration can come also from different styles. We are very open minded in music.

What are your feelings on the MC's?
We worked with many MCs. We personally think that some of them are talking too much and doing this people is not able to properly listen to music. In the UK our favorite MC is Shocker (from BIONIC Crew) very professional, cool and great person. Every time we work with him is always fun!

We all know you love driving & hard music, but outside the hard style trance scene do you enjoy the newer hardcore…Tommyknocker/Angerfist etc..? As I see there is a Futuresound Hardcore sublabel...
As we said above we like to listen all kind of music this is the reason why we started to work on different projects producing new talents and opening different divisions in our Music Group. Future Sound Hardcore Division is a very new brand for us and we personally think that the guys involved are really talented that’s why we gave them a chance to collaborate with us in this project.

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Mc's/Promoters?
Try hard, be yourself and … Do Not Follow The Leaders – as we say in our new single :) This is the only way for create your own style and to play your own music, if you copy what the others are doing you’ll be just a clone … we don’t think the music scene needs clones but new, fresh and talented producers!

If you could stage an event anywhere, where would you choose?
Probably Maldives … so we can play and after our set we can relax in the sun and just listen to the sea.

How do you see the scene 5 years from now?
Back in the past … already now producers are going back in the past taking sounds and styles that have been already tested and produced years ago.

If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?
For sure 2003/2005. This was the very best time for hard style.

Any shouts you would like to make?
Thanks for your questions mate and remember … Do Not Follow The Leaders … Follow The Music!

Greetings from Italy … The TGs.

Why didn't you change the name, it's so disappointing for ta's? Suggestion: Jump Generators?
Mr.Mystery
I don't know which is worse, the track or the video.

I didn't even know it was possible to cram that many clichés in one track.

I found it rather good (the track) then again i used to listen to alot of hardtrance years ago. I would rather listen to this than recent armin stuff.

Used to love "Rock To Da Beat" but that was back when I listed to really obnoxious music. I can't believe these guys are still around let alone worthy for an interview

Imagine being 30 or 40 years old and still going to clubs to play hardstyle...what a headache....
Johan (DJ Irish)
I used to hammer their track Connected way back. Still usable in a hard trance set today methinks
