A lot of people ask me why my monitors (speakers) aren't next to my DAW, but it's exactly for the reasons stated in this thread - when I'm working on new ideas and even when I'm mixing down, I like to focus my attention on what I hear, not what I see. That's why my studio is set up with two "stations" - one in front of my DAW and one in front of my primary keyboard/synths. I actually use them about 50/50.

very interesting arrangement man, definitely avoids the whole "looking at the song rather than listening to it" problem!

I always render what im working on as mp3 when im done, so i can listen to it outside the sequencer and on my mp3 player.

i personally feel being able to listen while you tweak invaluable. How annoying must it be to adjust an eq then move your chair, go back and forth non stop. Just close your eyes if it is really that distracting.
