So, I'm thinking about going to Lawler and Sander K at Avalon. Does anyone know if we can go by earlier and pick up our tickets (from wantickets) earlier in the day/night, go get food and get there a little bit later?
Also, I went there like 3-4 years...can I get a general opinion/overview of what to expect? Am I crazy for considering Lawler/Sander K instead of Digweed/Dubfire or A-Trak/Boys Noize?

Just take your wantickets printout. Different line, get your id check by the left side entrance. Show your id/cc and printout to pick up tickets...walk in about 5 more feet and hand the tickets you got. The earlier you go the faster your will get in. Don't go after 1:30 am as your wanticket presale will likely be no good.
Expect many washing machines that go there every Saturday night. (I'm convinced they don't even know who is playing or is going to play) However, try not to look at them or make eye-contact and you will have a good night. =) |

Yeah, I've heard that there would be ample spin cycles in effect. Will they actually hand me the hard tickets? I just bought tickets, but I found out a bunch of friends are going to be in LA, so, not sure if wantickets will be cool and give me a refund. If they don't, it would be nice if I could get there early and try to get some money back.

They will give you a hard ticket after you pass the ropes on the left side. But this is all after they open around 10pm. |

I've been rolling in the new year in Los Angeles since 2003. It's always been back and forth between Giant and TAO. I went to Avalon for the first time last year because I didn't like the lineups elsewhere.
Do you end the night early? Or are you like me and want the music to go on and on? That the main advantage with Avalon: the event goes on until 9am. Thus, no hassles with having to drive to the next afterhours spot. You also don't have to hassle with looooong ass lines getting into the venue
It's not a rave-like atmosphere; definitely a more mature crowd with a sweet vibe.
Sound system, in my opinion, always beats Giant/TAO
Being NYE, you'd think a lot of people would be coupled up. But to my surprise, there were a lot of hot gals
Last year, I picked up my hard ticket at about 9ish, walked a couple blocks away and grabbed some grub. Simple
I love Diggers, but wasn't too impressed last time I saw him at Mayan.

for the current price of $60, you can't beat that. |
