Don't be silly. The guy has been a pop EDM monger/business man since day one.

Oakey's era was mid 80's hip-hop and the early balearic / house scene (i.e. Future, Spectrum, The Project) - '86 - '90. It's hard to say that he was a pioneer after that. He was a quality mainstream house DJ at places like the Milk Bar in the early 90's and also dabbled a bit in deep house, but he wasn’t breaking any boundaries. In 1993 / 4 he must have taken a trip to Goa, because by summer 1994 he was very much veering towards the harder sound that was destined to take over the UK mainstream in later years and playing harder sets at places like Space. By 1995 it was all Grace and Man With No Name, the more commercial end of psychedelic trance.

To somebody my age, the music he plays these days, when I occasionally listen to him, is really not substantially different to what he was playing in the mid 1990’s. Being cynical, I also find it very difficult to believe that he even remotely likes this music.

BTW is his biography by Richard Norris any good? I was thinking of getting it for Christmas.

stupid question but did you try cross-referencing the day that concert took place with the tracklisting section on this forum and/or oakey's forum?

it's okay... i got it and enjoyed it, but it didn't focus nearly enough on the EMWT era that i was hoping it would... it's more about his early days. it's understandably difficult to cover such a broad career in depth in a relatively short amount of pages.

Yes i even have the tracklist. Which is:

1. Faster Kill cat
2. Save The Last Trance For Me
3. Sex N Money
4. Vunerable
5. Not Over
6. Amsterdam
7. No Compromise
8. Feed Your Mind

The track should be Oakenfold - Feed Your Mind, ive gone through every mix of that track i can find, but none of them is the correct one.

Think it's the Roman Hunter Remix, but I'm not by my vinyl to double-check.

oakenfold and carl cox are two peas in a pod as far as I'm concerned. they are both flogging old tunes to death. I don't understand why they can't move on and find some new music, rather than resting on the guaranteed hits of yesteryear. it's pure laziness. I wouldn't go see either of them again, even for free.
