i wonder if anyone had issues getting in? i have tried to get in 3-4 times and the stuck up bouncers alwys turn people away unless they are ready to get bottle service..which is also a ridiculous amount.. $1000 for five people (2 guys and 3 girls, and we all were dressed "to impress" with dinner jackets etc) anyway i wonder if their policy is a bit more relaxed on house music event nights like this one? and once we also put ourselves on this promoter marion's list (from vero's list), but the bouncers didnt even acknowledge that. so if anyone has a better idea on how to get in at this place especially when its a house music night, i would greatly appreciate it.

I will never go to Greenhouse again, and highly recommend that the rest of you make the same decision. Ali, it would have been nice to hear you play. I hope you find another venue because I will never set foot in that place again.

Friends and I are out for drinks on Thursday night. Come midnight we decide that we want to go out dancing. We chose Greenhouse because we wanted to support Z and Ali. Not only do I know Z, but I know one of the other promoters, Everette, as well.

As we're on the way there I'm on blackberry messenger with Everette telling him that we're on the way. He's excited because 6 people are coming to support his event. We were all dressed nicely.

We get to the door and the man at the door asks whose list we're on. I tell him Everette's. That I've just been in touch with him and he's expecting us. The guy at the door says to me, "You know there's a dress code right?" I said, "Sure, do you need to see what I'm wearing?" And I open my coat and show him my outfit. See below.

I've got dress pants on, a nice sweater, jewelry, my hair is done, and makeup.

The guy looks at me and says, "You know you've gotta wear heels if you want to get in here." And I said, "I can't wear heels, I had surgery." He says, "You're not getting in tonight."

So I see that in addition to being racist. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/...g_n_326074.html Apparently Greenhouse also has a problem with people who are handicapped.

Disgusting.

Once again Erica, I am really sorry for this situation and I have already spoken to you about this.

Forget about Greenhouse for the moment! Come join us at Rebel this Saturday for Digital City :) No complaints about Rebel lol :p

Sorry to hear that Erica. It's kind of ridiculous on how strict they were on a thursday night. Like I said I had trouble getting in myself, which is ridiculous. Also I don't like the fact they have a lawsuit for being racist, but from what I saw on Thurs, there was a decent amount of African Americans in the place, but maybe thats due to the law suit, lol.

Hopefully the promoters can talk to them, and tell them that the edm crowd will come but don't be to strict, and not prevent people from coming in.

I agree with Z, forget about Greenhouse for now, and come to Rebel, were you know they will not be preventing people from coming in.

Is this a bottle-service-only place?

I have to wonder, because I wear heels all the time to: dinner, cocktails, bottle service (get the point: anywhere where I can sit down at some point!!)

However, I would never wear heels if I knew I was gonna be dancing the whole entire night! Thats just silly! And to EXPECT someone to wear heels, when it is certainly not comfortable to all people, is beyond annoying.

No, not really, because there wasn't that many people ordering bottles. It was a thursday night, they really shouldn't have been that strict. I can see maybe on a fri and sat, where there is a really huge line, and they want to keep a certain image, but on a thurs, and when the line was a decent size.

If they would of let more people in, than downstairs, would of really been near to capacity, which would make the club look better than a half filled room. Also they would of made more money at the bar.

I don't think greenhouse is getting millionaires, or celebrities in there everyday, to prevent people from coming in. I know they are going for the well dressed, 10 girls to 1 guy ratio thing. Which they had that night, but again it's thursday, let more people in, when you are not really that full inside, and there is a good amount of people waiting outside.

its a fun place but way over-hyped. hands down, I would rather go to cielo on any given night.

Just dont go to the Gates than....lol...
THE GATES, housed in an iconic 1845 Chelsea building at 290 Eighth Avenue, is the latest incarnation of a space that brings together the best of the 20th Century with the possibilities and excitement of New York City's future. Once a speakeasy, the building has now become home to THE GATES, which when launched, will mark a new chapter in the city's nightlife history.

Kept private from the street by the pair of heritage brass gates after which the venue is named, THE GATES features an interior salvaged from the art-nouveau masterpiece The Biltmore Hotel in Midtown. The decadent space with lavish marble walls, an open fire place and crystal chandeliers reflects the timeless and classic nature of genuine luxury. THE GATES will feature an exclusive line up of the world’s best DJs, events, premieres and launches, fusing each party with its own iconic style.

In order to create the atmosphere we want, we have developed The Ambassador Program, which will fill the place with a great clientele base in a more organic way. Ambassador status is being offered to only a select group of influential individuals who have been chosen by THE GATES because of their shared vision and potential to contribute distinctive styles and personalities to this unique destination.
