Delay in songs being released to the public? (pg. 2)
View this Thread in Original format

-To Keep The Song Exclusive
the less people that have a song the better

-To Not Play Out A Song
nothing kills a song like a every dj playing it a million times in a week

- To Test The Song to see what people will say about it
its always interesting to hear different opinion on a song

- To Build Hype
sometimes you dont need music for that

-Promote Your Services
selling people on what you do

-Differnt Versions
sometimes you make different versions of 1 song certain versions for certain times

-Exhibiting Musical Knowledge
sometimes you wnat to know if people know or if they just talk

-Playing Jokes
everyone likes music so make it fun

theres way more reasons

So imagine if you've spent all winter writing a dozen tracks to make an EP or LP. If they're relased all at once, you got tons of raving fans for a few months, sent a lot of copies in a short time, then all you are is dust in the wind.

Releasing one by one every few months, gets club play, or air play if you're lucky. Public demand wants moar. You release your next one, you feed the masses. They want moar. You got moar. You feed them more gradually until you become a household name instead of a flash in the pan. While the rest of the tracks release, you work on your next album, and the circle of life continues.

Yeah I totally udnerstand the concept! I just figured that they wouldn't wait sooooo long (many months, even a year) from introducing a song to releasing it to the general public. Most people will probabyly get over the song by the time it comes out!

New to what?

I've been buying/downloading music for a while now. I guess I've just never sat around for 4+ months waiting for a song to come out before... Usually I just try to find a song and if I can't I just forget about it but I want to find this one.

I knew there was some sort of period before songs reach the general public, I just never knew it was this long. Its annoying!

4 months?? oh boy

that's frig all..it used to take 4 months to find out the name of a song after one of the top 20 guys started playing it, 4 more months for it to hit promo, and then 4 more months for it to hit full release.

I don't know about you guys, but I find I have a very short attention span with the majority of EDM songs! Waaaaay moreso with like techno/minimal/tech sorta stuff, mainly due to the fact that those tracks are usually more just like 7 minute beats/sounds/noises as opposed to a full on song (like house, progressive house, etc.), if you catch my drift.

Seems like a waste of time for me personally to wait a year for a song to come out only to listen to it like 10 times and then never play it again.

If YOU want to play that song as a dj and it's not released, then it can be annoying...as a club goer different story.:thepirate

Trying to an id a track before the advent of youtube was something else.

You'd hum to a friend, or even worse, try to hum it on a message board with everyone being completely clueless as to what you were talking about.

This is exactly why I've never tried to search for a brand new track (and failed)!

The only reason I knew this song (the one I started the thread about) was because John Digweed specificially mentioned the song during his mix.
