Ok guys ...it's finnally time to upgrade my pc ....so i thinked to go to an athlon xp 200 with 512 mb ddr 333 and a mnew had disk maztor at 60 gb ....i was thinking to buy a new video card also ...because actually i have a geforce 2 gts 32 mb ....so i thinkied to upgrade it with a geforce 4 mx ....but i saw that it's not that good ....then i see on internet and megazines that the ati radeonb 8500 64 mb it's a great card ...and so i went to the computer shop and asked for and ati radeon but the shop assistant told me that the ati radeon 8500 it's a bad card and that it's not that fast ....and at the fimnish of the discussion he suggest me to buy a geforce 3 ti 200 128 mb...
Now i don't know what da hell to buy ....or better say i don't know to what to believe ....this is way i came here and asked to you .....
SO what do you guys suggest me :
Geforce 4 mx 64 mb ddr PRICE 117,6 euro
Geforce 3 ti 200 128 mb dde PRICE 166,8 euro
Ati Radeon 8500 64 mb ddr PRICE 187,2 euro
Btw .....do you think that it's better an athlon xp 2000 configuration at 333 mhz of bus .....or a P4 with the bus at 266 mhz but more stady ?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOU TIME .....
Cheers :) |

I would definitely go with the Radeon 8500. The shop assistant you spoke to is obviously a bit of a dumbass - all video card benchmarks I've seen rank the Radeon 8500 often some way above the GeForce 3 Ti200.
And if you're considering getting an Athlon XP 2000, do not even bother thinking about Pentium 4. :) |

| radeon 8500 is your best bang for your bucks. it is more advanced than both of them. has more features. there driver will improve and mature over time. ATi's track record seems to be improving monthly with better drivers and better cards |

Radeon 8500, of course...
Here's a tip: never buy GeFarce MXs, since they are basicly "new supported features with older core"... look at GeForce 4 MX as of GeForce 3 that supports 4s features.. :) |

k.k.d. - good call on that... the Geforce 4 MX is really just a Geforce 2 core... with some other features (ie: dvd etc)

A Radeon truely has way more power in the chip and as one person said at the moment it lags because of driver issues give it time...
basically it boils down to: over the long haul you will notice gains in performance because the drivers will catch up...
as far as the p4 vs. athlon.. do you already have a mobo??? if so just plunk in whatever it will take... if not then you have 2 considerations:
1) the P4 is the fastest chip on the market at the moment... but it's expensive...
2) the athlon only lags a bit behind and is significantly cheaper...
basically if money isn't a factor... go for a p4 and get some crazy speeds... the p4 will also give you a little more headroom as it's a more recent chip... the athlon is actually going to be replaced by the sledgehammer (or opeteron) next year so you may have trouble upgrading down the road as there won't be any significant speed rampings in the next 6 months (I'm aware that the barton is coming out, but it's not going to provide the kinda headroom that the athlon needs... as of the current roadmap it appears as though AMD doesn't plan on taking the athlon above 2.0 Ghz.... |

| Radeon 8500 :d. That's what I have and it works like a dream :d. Runs amazing on my computer and isn't very expensive as far as 3D cards go now. |

I've actually been doin a heap of research on this cos im building a new computer myself. The Triplex Geforce4 Ti4200 64meg 3D Card is probably one of the best deals around and if you know your about overclocking, this easily beats the Ti4600 cards when overclocked. Good price and it looks sick --> http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/news.php3#18

Geforce 4, BABY!!!
hehehe...ya don't waste ur effort with a mx...go for a TI!!!
4200 will overclock faster than a 4600, and it's about 1/3rd the price :D:D:D
64mb/128mb...fair bit of discussion here...basically 64mb is faster (faster core & faster memory)...but if games texturers are getting as sloppy as jk2, then looks like u gonna need 128mb in the future :p
NIGHTERROR...u didn't say what u use ur computer for mostly? if it's only for internet and stuff like that, maybe don't bother spending so much on video & buy a friggin nice monitor instead...but yeah if u're into 3d games...gf4 is where it's at :):):)

Geforce 3 ti 200 128 mb dde PRICE
Go with that one for sure man.
Point 1, ATI sucks, there drivers blow ass and there support can lick ma nuts. I hate them and always will.
Point 2, The GeForce 4 is a better card then the GeForce 3 but the one you have listed is the Cheaper MX model. All GeForce MX models suck, Ti is such a good model and with the GeForce 3 chipset it is amazing. |
