hey guys,
i have a mate selling his pair of ultrasone 900s for $400 AUD, when they retail for 890 and sell for around 700...
he's trustworthy, and says they're in mint condition.. i'll obviously make sure of tht before i buy them if i do anyway, BUT...
anyone tried them?
i already have a set of AKG K240s, and love them, but i love my headphones and believe you can never have too many.. hell, stepping up a level is always useful too ey :p
so, yeah, are they worth their rather large price tag??
cheers :) |

Also curious to find responses to this one. I heard the 900 is amazing, but it IS closed, so I'm not sure how it would compare in soundstage and overall quality to an open headphone like the Ultrasone 2500 or the AKG 702
Others I'm considering:
Ultrasone 2500 (open)
Ultrasone 750/900 (closed, 750 is closed version of 2500)
Sennheiser HD650 (open)
Beyerdynamic DT880 (semi-open)
Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro (open)
AKG K702 (open) |

hey mate, i ended up buying them and they're bloody brilliant.
I also own a pair of AKG K240s, so i wasn't as concerned about the closed back since i already own a pair of really good open backs...
they sound really really good... :)
would recomend them, they're clear as.. so glad i bought em :) |

can someone explain closed back open back, I dont have any headphones, just some $9 dollar in ears that I cant really use for production. |

it's mostly to do with reflections from the drivers in the ear cups...
with closed backs it's really hard to get a 'natural' sound due to the reflections that happen within the cups...
with open backs they usually sound a lot more natural since the backing part is partially removed, so there aren't as many reflections...
obviously you sacrifice insulated sound etc with open backs though... |

Ah! Nice, most likely will be getting the Ultrasone 900's and the AKG 702's, just to have one open for the "natural sound" as you put it and another for tracking and working when isolation is necessary.
Do you prefer one over the other? How do you like your AKG's compared to the Ultrasone 900's? And most importantly, how accurate are they compared to speaker monitors?
Cheers mate... |
